This position is responsible for administrative and programmatic management of juvenile defense issues.
The Office of the State Public Defender (OSPD) regulates the delivery of legal services for indigent persons accused of crimes through dedicated well-trained and talented public defenders and support staff in all 64 parishes.Minimum Qualifications
1. Five years of full-time work experience in any field plus three years of experience conducting organizational assessments or grant management or professional or academic experience in program development for juvenile justice system involved youth OR
2. A bachelors degree plus three years of experience conducting organizational assessments or grant management or professional or academic experience in program development for juvenile justice system involved youth; OR
3. An advanced degree in a social science field public health social work education or a Juris Doctorate plus two years of experience conducting organizational assessments or grant management or professional or academic experience in program development for juvenile justice system involved youth.
Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Agency-wide
- Support the State Public Defender in budgetary legislative administrative affairs and all other duties assigned by the State Public Defender.
- Be assigned to and participate in various committees commissions counsels task forces regarding juvenile justice.
- Work with criminal justice stakeholders to promote sound juvenile justice and child welfare processes
Administrative
- Liaison with the District Offices regarding juvenile cases. Report issues for resolution.
- Provide input and materials for statewide training on juvenile defense services Child in Need of Care and Families in Need of Services representation
- Monitor districts for compliance with mandatory juvenile data collection. Provide regular juvenile reports to the State Public Defender.
- Moderate the juvenile listserv.
- Spearhead and participate in the OSPDs annual Juvenile Summit.
Programmatic
- Manage monitor and report on Title IV-E activities progress payments and compliance with rules regulations policies and protocols.
- Provide grant management to the district offices of the public defender.
- Attend scheduled site visits to district offices; observe juvenile courts statewide and report on issues.
Position-Specific Details:
Compensation:Compensation is salaried and shall be commensurate with experience
Louisiana is a State as a Model Employer for People with Disabilities.
Preference will be given to given to applicants with experience in grant managment data complilations and/or work within Louisiana Juvenile Justice systems.
This position includes eligiblity for health insurance benefits and enrollment in state retirement.
Applicant must be available to work full-time in-person in Baton Rouge. Applicant must also be available for infrequent field travel throughout Louisiana.
