Main Purpose of Job
These coordinator positions will focuson supporting strategic statewide development of systems for implementation ofmathematics instructional professional learning tiered student interventionand school improvement practices that improve student outcomes in mathematics. TheCoordinator of Mathematics provides evidence-based and highly effective programand initiative development and implementation leadership support aligned to theMaryland College and Career ReadyMathematics Standards to accelerate student achievement across local educationagencies (LEAs) and early learning environments. The position will work closelywith LEA staff and early learning providers to build the capacity to developinterpret and implement best in class mathematics programs and initiativescourses instructional frameworks curricula and assessments and innovationsto narrow and close opportunity and achievement gaps for historicallydisadvantaged students.
TheCoordinator of Mathematics will support the Director of Mathematics to developdeploy and facilitate and assess the effectiveness of ongoing high-qualityprofessional learning and technical assistance provided by the Maryland StateDepartment of Education (MSDE). This position will also support the MSDEscollaboration efforts with diverse communities and organizations ( of higher education nonprofits; community-based partners;taskforces; etc.) to develop implement and analyze programs and strategies toscale students participation in STEM-aligned college and career readinesspathways such as through dual enrollment advanced placement InternationalBaccalaureate and early college high school programs. The Coordinator of Mathematicswill support MSDEs efforts in implementing the Blueprint for Marylands Future and its multiyearStrategic Plan.
POSITION DUTIES
Develops and implements evidence-basedmathematics programs and initiatives professional learning and technicalassistance and provides content expertise and stakeholder engagement toaccelerate student achievement.
- Facilitates the development and implementation of high-quality and evidence-based professional learning including year-round in-person sessions across the State within districts and school sites.
- Provides leadership support guidance and direction to local education agencies (LEA) staff early learning providers and other stakeholders across Maryland aligned to best-in-class mathematics teaching and learning practices.
- Supports the management of programs and initiatives and stakeholder workgroups focused on ensuring equity and access to rigorous mathematics programs pathways and initiatives in Maryland Schools especially for those who have been historically underserved.
- Collaborates on issues related to the development and integration of accessible resources (i.e. instructional frameworks curricula and assessments presentations informational materials etc.).
- Represents MSDE at relevant local State and national meetings in areas related to mathematics content-specific programs and initiatives.
- Supports the review and evaluation of high-quality culturally responsive instructional materials assessments and resources to ensure alignment to Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards for Mathematics and evidence-based practices.
- Formats revises edits prepares and updates mathematics standards and framework documents for publication. mathematics resources (i.e. websites; playbooks; informational materials; etc.).
- Researches exemplary mathematics programs resources and instructional materials and supports the continuous improvement of MSDEs mathematics strategies and initiatives to accelerate student achievement.
- Develops and provides high-quality evidence-based professional learning and leadership support for local education agencies and early learning providers to effectively implement the Blueprint for Marylands Future and MSDEs multiyear Strategic Plan priorities and enablers.
- Supports the Director of Mathematics in developing deploying and facilitating highly effective and relevant professional learning explicitly designed to accelerate student achievement especially for underperforming schools across the state.
- Collaborates with diverse communities organizations and LEAs to develop implement and analyze programs and strategies to scale students participation in STEM-aligned college and career readiness pathways and to build the capacity to develop interpret and implement best in class mathematics programs and initiatives.
- Facilitates and manages data collection program monitoring and implementation continuous improvement and engagement initiatives and special projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Mastersdegree or the equivalent of 36 credit hours ofpost-baccalaureatecoursework in mathematics STEM education or a related area from an accreditedcollege or university.
Experience:Five years of administrative instructional coaching orteaching experience in oraffiliated with mathematics and/or STEMprograms in prekindergarten through 12 settings or related areas.

- Candidates may substitute a Bachelors Degree with 7 years of the specified content experience to satisfy the Minimum Qualifications noted above.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the position option for one year of the requiredexperience.
- The required field of education and experience are unique foreach option and are established by MSDE in accordance withEducation Article Section 2-104 of the Annotated Code ofMaryland. The specific education and experiencequalifications for each position are on record in the Human Resource Management Branch of the Division of BusinessServices.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Education Program classifications or Education Program specialtycodes in the Education field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
One year of teaching experience in a Mathematicsor STEM Education Program.

- Skill in developing and delivering research based and best-in-class professional development programs.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and time sensitive deadlines.
- Ability to interpret and apply learning standards policies and regulations.
- Ability to work as a team member and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
