Job Summary

AECOM is hosting an exclusive invitation-only hiring event in Raleigh on January 28-29 2026. This is a great opportunity to learn and connect with AECOM for career opportunities starting Spring/Summer 2026.

The event kicks off on Wednesday evening with a networking mixer from 6-8 pm where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects career paths and the company itself. Youll also have the chance to meet other students recent graduates and AECOM professionals from across our business lines.

On Thursday interviews will take place at our Raleigh office. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities.

AECOM seeking an Entry-Level Civil Engineer to join our Roadway Design team in the Raleigh and Charlotte NC offices. This position offers an excellent opportunity for hands-on experience with roadway design plan production and exposure to all phases of transportation projects from concept through construction.

This position is expected to begin in Summer 2026.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with the design and preparation of roadway construction plans including alignments profiles cross-sections and quantity summaries.
  • Support senior engineers in developing right-of-way (ROW) plans maintenance of traffic (MOT) layouts and cost estimates.
  • Learn and apply NCDOT roadway design standards manuals and plan preparation procedures.
  • Draft and revise plan sheets using MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations for horizontal and vertical geometry.
  • Support the coordination of utilities SUE (Subsurface Utility Engineering) and other design disciplines.
  • Participate in field reviews data collection and coordination meetings with senior engineers and project stakeholders.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation following company and NCDOT QA/QC procedures.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of civil design principles roadway geometry and CAD drafting.
  • EIT certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire).
  • Internship or prior experience on NCDOT or other DOT roadway design projects.
  • Familiarity with NCDOT Design Manual Plan Preparation Guide and Standard Drawings.
  • Experience with MicroStation or OpenRoads Designer in an academic or professional setting.
  • Coursework or exposure to transportation engineering highway design and/or traffic engineering.
  • 1 years of related roadway or transportation design experience (internship or co-op experience preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel Word Outlook).
  • Interest in learning MicroStation OpenRoads Designer and NCDOT plan preparation standards.
  • Strong communication problem-solving and teamwork skills.
