This is a technical PM role not an administrative PM position.


Overview:

We are seeking a senior technical hands-on Project Manager to support a multi-phase Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) implementation and downstream data extraction and archive initiatives within a large healthcare system.
This role sits at the intersection of Epic EMPI system interfaces and legacy data archiving. The PM will act as the primary conduit between product engineering vendors and client stakeholders ensuring scope clarity aggressive execution and delivery across parallel workstreams.

Required Qualifications (Absolute musts):
  • 7 years of Project Management experience in healthcare IT environments
  • Direct EMPI implementation experience (Enterprise Master Patient Index)
  • Epic certification (required)
  • Proven experience managing system interfaces (Epic to downstream platforms)
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data flows patient identity and interoperability
  • Experience supporting data extraction migration or archiving initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a technical PM (comfortable in engineering conversations)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate tech speak into plain English
Strongly Preferred / Ideal Experience:
  • Experience with legacy EMR systems and healthcare archives (e.g. Meditech OnBase similar)
  • Prior work in large public-sector or hospital network environments
  • Experience managing projects with incomplete requirements and evolving scope
  • Familiarity with EMPI usage for downstream analytics reporting or archive retrieval
  • Background supporting system decommissioning initiatives
  • PMP or equivalent certification (preferred not required)
Responsibilities:

Project & Delivery Management
  • Own day-to-day project execution for EMPI implementation and Epic interface workstreams.
  • Drive parallel Phase 1 (EMPI Epic feed) and Phase 2 (data usage outbound interfaces archive planning).
  • Establish and maintain detailed project plans timelines milestones and dependency tracking.
  • Act as a forcing function to move discovery decisions and delivery forward in ambiguous environments.
Technical Coordination
  • Coordinate EMPI setup activities including inbound and outbound data feeds.
  • Manage Epic-related interface discussions dependencies and sequencing.
  • Partner closely with engineering teams responsible for EMPI configuration and integrations.
  • Translate technical discussions into clear actionable plans for business and clinical stakeholders.
Data Extraction & Archive Oversight
  • Support archive planning for multiple legacy EMR and source systems (up to 12 systems anticipated).
  • Coordinate data extraction activities tied to decommissioning and archival workflows.
  • Ensure EMPI is aligned to downstream archive usage (patient identity resolution across systems).
  • Track risks dependencies and sequencing related to extraction validation and decommissioning.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
  • Serve as the central communication bridge between:
    • Product management
    • Engineering teams
    • Client IT and clinical stakeholders
    • External vendors and implementation partners
  • Run and facilitate working sessions status meetings and executive updates.
  • Deliver concise clear written and verbal communications to technical and non-technical audiences.
Governance & Reporting
  • Establish lightweight governance and reporting structures aligned to client expectations.
  • Provide weekly status updates risk logs and issue tracking.
  • Identify long poles blockers and risks early and drive mitigation plans.
  • Support onboarding and ramp-up of resources to avoid delivery delays.
