The Electrical Engineering group develops design solutions for NYPAs electrical assets and systems in generating plants substations and transmission networks.
In addition the Electrical Engineering group provides the following services:
Performing power flow analysis of power plant electrical systems to determine performance during normal emergency and motor starting conditions.
Simulating and analyzing abnormal system disturbances to identify influential system parameters and root causes.
Analyzing failures of major electrical equipment such as transformers large motors and circuit breakers to develop corrective action plans.
Conducting diagnostic evaluations of equipment performance.
Supporting the Electrical Safety Program through arc flash analyses grounding studies and minimum approach distance (MAD) calculations.
Conducting technical evaluations of procurement and vendor bids.
Witnessing factory acceptance testing start-up testing and field testing of major electrical equipment.
Assisting in obtaining emergency spare equipment.
Our paid 10-week Summer Developmental Internship program runs from June 2 - August 7 2026. As an Intern you will receive professional development on-the job experience in the energy industry exposure to executives and networking opportunities to help build a solid foundation for your future career.

Responsibilities
- Participate in department-specific projects analysis research methods and learn project management skills
- Support team in developing business solutions that contribute to NYPAs VISION2030 strategic goals
- Research industry trends and emerging technologies to contribute to the continuous improvement of our programs
- Other projects as assigned; will vary based on focus area
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs especially Excel PowerPoint Outlook
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task with competing priorities
- Ability to work both independently and collaborate as part of a team
- Provide positive customer service for internal and external stakeholders
Education Experience and Certifications
- Enrollment in an associates undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university is required. Recent graduates are not eligible for our Developmental Internship program.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States for the duration of the internship from June 2 - August 7
