Responsibilities- Strategic Leadership and Operations
- Directs pharmacy operations in a cost-effective manner delegates responsibility and authority for providing services continuously improve services to meet customer needs assures adequate resources are available and integrates services with other professional services to assure continuity of care.
- In conjunction with the clinical manager assists with deploying clinical pharmacy services in an effort to optimize drug use in a cost-effective manner.
- Recruits hires delegates training sets assignments directs assigned staff develops performance standards and conducts performance appraisals (PA). Recommends merit increases consistent with hospital policy and procedures.
- Stays current with applicable federal and state laws as professional standards of practice; monitors assures compliance and maintains required recordkeeping. Assures proper handling documentation and security of controlled substances.
- Prepares monitors and operates within the department budget for operations personnel and capital equipment; prepares budget variance reports as required. Develops ways to reduce and control pharmacy and hospital expenses.
- Coordinates planning development and maintenance of both clinical and operational technology systems. Operational systems include but are not limited to carousels prepackaging bar code labeling scanning devices clinical documentation systems medication tracking system infusion device drug libraries automated dispensing cabinets and sterile compounding workflow technology.
- Assures accuracy and completeness of pharmacy billing in cooperation with Hospital Finance; assures that appropriate charge capture and billing systems for pharmacy charges are developed and maintained by staff.
- Quality and Performance Improvement
- Contributes to the planning for and achievement of annual departmental objectives by coordinating assigned objectives and assisting in the accomplishment of others; coordinates and actively participates in the departmental performance improvement program.
- Prepares and revises policies and procedures in area of responsibility; implements approved changes. Interprets hospital and departmental policies and procedures for pharmacy personnel and assures compliance.
- Develops coordinates and monitors the departmental productivity; produces timely reports as required; reassigns staff as required to most effectively match staffing to workload.
- Participates in tracking medication errors as appropriate and develops and implements improved procedures to minimize and prevent medication errors.
- Collaboration and Partnership
- Performs staff pharmacist duties when needed.
- Attends and participates in other programs committees and functions required by the health system or pharmacy. Conducts pharmacy staff meetings.
- Other Duties As Assigned
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications- 7 years pharmacy experience including 2 years managerial experience. PGY I or II residency considered in lieu of management experience
- Current and unrestricted license in the State of Louisiana as Pharmacist
