Your role

Radio-Canada Ontario is seeking an enthusiastic Senior Editor with strong journalistic skills and solid experience in digital news to join the daily news editorial team in Ontario specifically at our Windsor station.

You will contribute to the Radio-Canada Ontario website and its associated digital platforms and will be required to write news stories under tight deadlines. You must be able to create and organize digital news content and enhance stories with multimedia elements to increase their value for audiences. All work must be carried out in accordance with Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices.

You may be required to write and present a combination of headlines and local regional national and international news for the web and radio.

Working in a highly integrated newsroom you may also be called upon to present reports and news content on other platforms as needed.

Please note that this is a full-time on-site position Monday to Friday. The selected candidate may be required to work overtime and on statutory holidays. Work schedules may change based on operational needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate and foster exceptional skills in continuous news writing editing and story assembly while respecting Radio-Canadas style and formats and working under tight deadlines; work in accordance with journalistic and programming policies as well as CBC/Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices.

  • Edit and write content for publication on the Radio-Canada Windsor website the program Matins sans frontières our applications and associated social media platforms.

  • Prepare and deliver news bulletins on air province-wide as required.

  • Work under the direction of a producer while demonstrating initiative and sound judgment.

  • Coordinate the activities of other staff members as needed; close collaboration with other journalists is essential.

Key tasks:

  • Quickly write breaking news stories for digital platforms.

  • Select photos and audio/video clips to accompany online stories.

  • Critically review content and elements produced by others.

  • Write edit assemble and publish digital content clearly and concisely for a national audience.

  • Organize and update the Radio-Canada Windsor homepage.

  • Ensure the website and news coverage reflect daily editorial priorities.

  • Conduct interviews to support web production write stories and edit clips for radio.

  • Gather information from diverse sources and report on it.

  • Rewrite content as needed to best suit platform-specific formats.

  • Ensure all text complies with standard grammar rules and Radio-Canada Windsor style including proper spelling and capitalization.

  • Prepare and write articles and headlines based on information provided by reporters news wires CBC or original sources.

  • Use content from other SRC/CBC platforms for digital services by writing and formatting stories with compelling headlines photos videos audio content and illustrations using the latest audience data and metrics and drawing from multiple sources including Matins sans frontières; curate reports prepared by Radio-Canada reporters in Windsor across Ontario and elsewhere on local regional national and international issues.

  • Occasionally produce reports interviews or simulated live segments for radio.

  • Edit program-related texts including enhanced segments for audio feeds as required by the station.

  • Substitute for other Windsor team members as needed (e.g. reporter-editor newsreader-editor associate producer).

  • Perform any other related duties.

Your profile:

  • A university degree (or equivalent) in journalism communications or a related field

  • Five (5) years of experience directly related to the position including demonstrated knowledge of online and digital news media proven journalistic writing skills and knowledge of Radio-Canadas digital and broadcast environment

  • Extensive and demonstrated knowledge of Southwestern Ontario as well as regional national and international issues

  • The ability to write a wide range of news- and current affairs-related material

  • Proven experience and ability to write and edit content according to best practices and style for digital platforms

  • The ability to select and prepare photos and videos to enhance news stories

  • Experience identifying potential legal issues and risks related to non-compliance with Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices in digital content

  • Strong editorial judgment to assess information and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a deadline-driven newsroom

  • The ability to assess the news value of stories for online and radio audiences

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; excellent team spirit

  • Bilingualism (French and English) both spoken and written
