Metrology Apprentice
Metrology is the backbone of precision engineering at Williams and the space to find your place in true accuracy. Working with cutting-edge tools - from micrometers to laser scanners and CNC measuring machines - the team verifies every component to micrometer precision. Spanning composites metallic inspection and non-destructive testing Metrology ensures every washer wing and structure is built to perfection driving reliability and speed at the pinnacle of motorsport.
This Metrology Apprenticeship is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of every manufacturing process and the skills required to inspect the resulting parts. You will have the opportunity to work at the pinnacle of Motorsport for one of the most iconic teams in Formula 1 and gain hands-on proficiency with a variety of tools ranging from hand tools like micrometres and callipers to advanced laser scanning of CAD surfaces and programming CNC Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMMs). The program includes rotations within our Composites & Metallic Inspection and NDT (Non-Destructive Test) departments.

Make Real Impact
- You will be involved in inspecting current F1 components adhering to work orders and timing plans gaining knowledge in the inspection of both Metallic and Carbon fibre components.
- You will become competent in disciplines including Laser Scanning with the Hexagon Absolute Arm Manual and CNC measurement on our state-of-the-art Wenzel CMMs and using the Metrios Optical measurement machine.
- You will ensure the department presentation is to the standard of a world-class facility while strictly complying with health and safety obligations and promptly reporting any defects risks or potential hazards.
Find Your Place
- You have good communication organisational skills and a keen interest in engineering.
- You must have GCSEs (or equivalent) including Mathematics English and a STEM subject and be eligible for a relevant engineering apprenticeship programme.
- Candidates with A-Levels or a BTEC in engineering/motorsport or relevant hobby/project experience (e.g. karting automotive repair model engineering) are encouraged to apply.
- You will graduate with a Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and Automotive Engineering Pathway QAUH: Motorsport Composite Manufacture.
