How will you make an impact

In this NPI/ Operations Engineering role in Desktop Sem you will optimize the production of our Desktop Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) and serve as the primary technical contact for our external contract manufacturer. You will also play a critical role in New Product Introduction (NPI) ensuring smooth industrialization and manufacturability of next-generation products. Your work directly enables the delivery of high-quality systems that support scientific breakthroughs worldwide.

What will you do

  • Act as the primary technical contact for the Desktop SEM contract manufacturer supporting daily production activities technical questions and issue resolution.
  • Serve as the linking pin between R&D Engineering Operations Quality Service and the supplier ensuring clear communication alignment and timely escalation when needed.
  • Lead and support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities representing Operations during development phases to ensure designs are manufacturable robust and aligned with supplier capabilities.
  • Prepare and optimize production processes defining build sequences production flows required tools and process specifications for both existing and new products.
  • Coordinate and support pilot builds and process validation at the supplier to secure smooth ramp-up to volume production.
  • Create and maintain production documentation ( work instructions test procedures BOM validation process guidelines) for ongoing and new product releases.
  • Provide hands-on technical support for troubleshooting system module or process-related issues driving root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Facilitate and implement engineering changes (ECNs) ensuring timely controlled adoption at the supplier and within internal operations.
  • Monitor supplier performance identify risks and drive continuous improvement actions to enhance quality manufacturability reliability and delivery performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on DFMA PFMEA readiness reviews and risk assessments to ensure robust industrialization.
  • Capture and communicate lessons learned from production and NPI activities embedding them into next-generation designs and processes.

Who are you (Qualifications)

Education

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Mechatronics Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Applied Physics or a related field.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • 25 years of experience in high-tech manufacturing engineering or system integration.
  • Experience working with external manufacturers or suppliers.
  • Experience with or exposure to New Product Introduction processes is a strong advantage.
  • Affinity with physics mechanics electronics and software; experience with electron microscopy is a plus.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex system and process issues.
  • Experience developing work instructions defining production processes and implementing engineering changes.
  • Strong understanding of industrialization continuous improvement and hands-on problem solving.

  • Structured organized and capable of handling multiple priorities.
  • Fluent in English; Dutch proficiency preferred.
