Kitchen Coordinator
Role Description
The Kitchen Coordinator manages all kitchen operations at the Barnette Center ensuring nutritious and high-quality meals are prepared and served according to strict safety and sanitation standards. This role involves recipe-based food preparation maintaining inventory purchasing supplies and upholding fiscal responsibility as well as occasionally preparing meals for other hospice services.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all kitchen operations ensuring the implementation of healthy and safe work practices.
  • Skilled in preparing a wide variety of foods from scratch consistently following recipes with accuracy while preparing and serving items featured on the recommended Hospice Center menu.
  • Ensure meals snacks and beverages are prepared and served safely adhering strictly to proper sanitation techniques to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Ensure established sanitation and food preparation practices and procedures are followed.
  • Ensure the safe storage and disposal of all food and beverages.
  • Maintain grocery lists to meet food and supply needs to ensure adequate stock is always available.
  • Purchase food and supplies practicing fiscal responsibility and budget awareness.
  • Establish and maintain an inventory system for kitchen supplies
  • Prepare meals for bereavement support groups as requested by the Director of Support Services.
  • Collaborate closely with direct supervisor to develop comprehensive processes guidelines and procedures that support effective kitchen operations as needs arise.
  • Adhere to and enforce all processes guidelines procedures.
  • Alerts direct supervisor to any repairs or maintenance needs for kitchen appliances and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with the Volunteer Coordinator to arrange and schedule training sessions for kitchen volunteers as needed.
  • Provide mentorship and conduct thorough orientation for all new kitchen volunteers to ensure preparedness as needed.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for kitchen volunteers addressing their questions and needs.
Qualifications
  • Certification in Safe Food Handling or a willingness to obtain certification required.
  • Knowledge of dietary requirements for individuals with advanced disease preferred.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of cost analysis budget and fiscal responsibility as they pertain to kitchen operations.
  • Able to evaluate and monitor expenses related to kitchen supplies and meal preparation ensuring financial efficiencies.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism ethical conduct and sound judgment.
  • Must have the ability and skills required for safe operation of kitchen tools appliances and equipment.
  • Capacity to respond quickly in fast-paced and changing environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent customer service skills and philosophy.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Experience working with volunteers preferred.
  • Must be physically ability to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods is required.
Schedule & FLSA Status
This is a part-time non-exempt position with a schedule of twenty-five hours per week Monday through Friday. Changes to working hours may be requested as needed.
