The Shepherd Center in Atlanta Georgia is recruiting for a full-time licensed family counselor (LMFT LPC LCSW) to work with families and caregivers of patients with brain injury on our inpatient neuromedical units. This position includes providing family consultation psychoeducation therapeutic intervention crisis management and trauma/grief counseling services for families whose loved ones have experienced an acquired brain injury or other neurological event/illness. They provide consultation to professional staff regarding family systems theory and functioning interventions recommendations psychosocial rehabilitation issues and family coping and adjustment issues. The counselor should have specialty training in rehabilitation counseling marriage and family therapy family systems theory and trauma/crisis management and intervention. An ideal candidate may also have experience working in medical settings and with interdisciplinary treatment teams.
Primary responsibilities include active interdisciplinary team communications and participation and providing family therapeutic interventions which may include individual group and family therapy assessments consultations and family and staff education. The Department of Psychology is a large supportive and collaborative group including licensed professional counselors licensed clinical social workers psychologists neuropsychologists and chaplains.
Qualifications:
- Masters or doctoral degree in Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Licensed Clinical Social Worker Licensed Professional Counselor or related field with training in family systems theory crisis management and trauma/grief counseling. CACREP accredited program training is preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate strong conceptual interventional and communication skills. Must be knowledgeable in family systems theory and be able to address family crisis situations directly and effectively. Must be capable of educating family and team members regarding critical issues related to adjustment/coping following catastrophic injury. Ability to organize group counseling/education and therapy sessions and provide individualized treatment interventions to meet the adjustment needs of family members. Must exhibit strong teaching and communication skills for patient family staff and community education. Good time management and organizational skills are required.
- Experience working with medical populations and/or in medical settings and with interdisciplinary treatment teams is preferred. Program development is encouraged.
- Licensed or license eligible in the State of Georgia. Professional will document and bill on date of service (with support from supervisor as required).
