Job Summary:

LME are re-platforming and moving to Red Hat OpenShift Bare Metal private cloud infrastructure and this role offers a unique opportunity to work within a highly skilled DevSecOps team to complete that journey.

Primarily the role will be to assist the LME Virtualization Engineering Team in migrating Virtual Workloads (a mixture of Windows and Linux VMs) from VMware vSphere to Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization running on OCP.

Knowledge to support and maintain the OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) infrastructure and notably the LME IAC implementation of OCP will also need to be gained.

Developing knowledge of containers if not already held will also be paramount to succeeding in this role.

We are looking for a Senior Platform / Infrastructure Engineer who will drive and participate in designing operating and evolving our container platform ensuring reliable compute storage and connectivity for application teams.
This role is hands-on and requires strong Linux fundamentals Kubernetes/OpenShift operational experience and the ability to mentor others during a large-scale platform transformation.

Job Duties:

Responsibilities:

Assist where relevant with building out OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) Bare Metal
Provide Capacity Management assessments of the On-Prem ESX & OCP Bare Metal platforms
Establish VM migration plans by reviewing hosted apps and assessing individual technology best practices
Assisting to migrate numerous VMs hosting various applications onto the private cloud Bare Metal infrastructure
Ability to troubleshoot OS Network and Storage issues related to Virtualization.
Helping the LME to raise utilization of hardware estate to 60-70%
Operate and maintain Kubernetes / OpenShift clusters in production
Perform cluster upgrades patching and lifecycle management
Troubleshoot cluster node and workload-level issues
Define standards for resource management scheduling and scaling
Manage ingress/egress routes load balancing and DNS
Implement network policies and secure service communication
Troubleshoot application connectivity and performance issues
Automate infrastructure using IaC (Terraform Ansible)
Promote GitOps and CI/CD integration for platform operations
Improve observability using logging metrics and alerting
Participate in incident response and root cause analysis
Work closely with application security and network teams
Contribute to platform architecture and roadmap decisions

Requirements:

Degree in Computer Science IT or related disciplines.
Minimum 7 years working with Virtualization technologies and Windows and/or Linux Server administration experience. Some knowledge and experience of working with both technologies highly desirable.
Hands on Kubernetes experience ( Compute Storage Networking ) OpenShift is bonus
Solid understanding of container runtime concepts Kubernetes networking fundamentals (CNI services ingress). Persistent storage concepts in Kubernetes
Scripting language such as Shell or Python to perform automation
Ability to understand and maintain code in a CI/CD Pipeline environment
Knowledge and experience of working with vSphere/ESX Infrastructure and Virtual Machines.
Experience working with HPE Proliant DL Servers highly desirable
Knowledge and experience of Red Hat OpenShift highly desirable
Any knowledge and experience of containerisation highly desirable
Any experience of working with Red Hat OpenShift Dev Workspaces and IAC highly desirable
