Do you excel at working with people and have strong communication skills The Washington State Gambling Commission is looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Licensing Specialist to join our this role you will help maintain the integrity and compliance of gambling operations by reviewing and managing licensing applications and renewals.

During initial training period workdays will be Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Candidates should reside within a reasonable commutable distance to the assigned work location at our Lacey Headquarters.

The Licensing Unit handles applications for gambling activities in Washington with collected fees funding most agency operations.

Duties
In this role you will independently review and decide on gambling license applications for individuals and organizations supporting the agencys licensing functions with your expertise.
Here is some of what you will be doing:
- Review evaluate and process gambling license applications and renewals in alignment with applicable laws policies and procedures.
- Conduct comprehensive background checks and due diligence on applicants to ensure regulatory compliance and suitability.
- Communicate with applicants to request required documentation and provide guidance throughout the licensing process.
- Collaborate with Tribal Gaming Agencies regarding technical aspects of licensing employees at Tribal facilities.
- Develop deliver and facilitate presentations training sessions and briefings as needed.
- Perform general office duties including answering the agencys main phone line greeting customers and managing mail distribution.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or GED AND
Two years of experience working in an office environment processing applications licenses or certifications or performing other office functions.
Two years of college level courses may substitute year for year for work experience.
The successful candidate must be a strong communicator organized with ability to multitask detailed oriented and able to:
- Make fair consistent decisions after considering all relevant factors. Address difficult situations constructively to prevent conflict and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders.
- Apply laws policies and procedures for licensing; solve complex licensing issues; maintain good public relations; and coordinate multiple projects efficiently.
- Work independently adhere to guidelines manage tasks and resources efficiently and seek opportunities for growth.
- Perform basic math functions: add subtract multiply and divide.
- Work successfully in a team environment.
- Accept and process cash payments.
- Verify information and resolve issues using databases internet sources licensing files and other resources.
- Become proficient in our agency databases and MyAccount.
- Maintain professionalism when providing support to stakeholders via telephone.
- Use sound judgment in the absence of an established procedure.
- Proficient with computers and the internet.
In addition we may give preference to candidates who have:
- At least two years of experience within a licensing agency making decisions to approve deny or revoke licenses.
- Experience working/referring to RCWs and WACs in relation to work experience
- Experience analyzing and interpreting financial documents and interviewing stakeholders.
- Knowledge of departmental programs licensing policies and procedures; research methods and data collections.
Supplemental Information
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment
- Be willing to undergo and be able to pass an extensive background investigation which includes a criminal history check credit check and fingerprinting. Applicants will be required to sign a release authorizing the background investigation. Information obtained from background checks will not necessarily preclude employment.
- Be eligible to work in the United States.
- Not serve as an officer or manager of any corporation or organization that conducts a lottery or gambling activity including tribal gaming activities.
- Refrain from gambling in tribal gaming activities and all gambling licensed activities.
- Travel state-wide and occasionally overnight individually or with others.
- Successfully complete Fingerprint Rolling Technique Certification training by WSP.
- Take the Governors Office of Indian Affairs Government-to-Government and Compacts and IGRA training within the first six months of working with a Tribal entity.
- Receive a formal government-to-government training course at least once every five years.
- Address diverse groups including nonprofit commercial operators and Tribal representatives in a public forum.
