Job Summary

Position Summary: The Machinist in the Die Repair department is responsible for periodic maintenance analysis and repairs of tooling to ensure efficient and effective production. This role involves studying blueprints machining components troubleshooting and conducting both preventive and reactive maintenance on dies.
Pay Range:$25.58-$27.33 plus $1.50 shift premium
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform periodic maintenance on dies maintaining detailed maintenance records and schedules for 100-110 dies.
  • Repair dies when non-routine deterioration occurs including sharpening replacing or recoating tooling as necessary.
  • Conduct reactive maintenance on dies detecting wear and fatigue and determining appropriate corrective actions.
  • Respond to operator and Quality Assurance write-ups after each production run addressing issues as needed.
  • Disassemble and reassemble dies using appropriate tools such as hammers and wrenches.
  • Study blueprints and visualize the structure and function of dies.
  • Set up and operate machine tools (e.g. lathe milling machine grinder) to machine parts to specifications.
  • Verify correctness of machined parts using tools such as micrometers calipers and gages.
  • Shape smooth and fit flat and contoured surfaces of die members using hand tools and powered grinders.
  • Inspect dies for compression springs nitrogen springs punches cutting devices drawsticks and form punches after runs.
  • Analyze specifications and apply knowledge of die design and construction to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Perform troubleshooting analysis with engineers and recommend improvements to die performance.
  • Submit Engineering Change Requests (ECR) for required changes and print impact guns allen wrenches pry bars mallets micrometers calipers and OD/ID & radius gages.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of shop equipment and tools.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Quality Assurance to address die issues and recommend solutions.
  • Alert the Tool Room Supervisor of replacement part needs to maintain inventory.
  • Schedule work on write-ups based on production priorities provided by the Material Control Manager or Supervisor.
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
  • 1-2 years of experience in die repair or a related machining role.
Essential Skills:
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading.
  • Knowledge of maintaining and improving progressive transfer and deep-drawing stamping dies.
  • Familiarity with shop mathematics including geometry algebra and trigonometry.
  • Basic machining skills and understanding of tool room equipment.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and troubleshooting ability.
  • Mechanical and spatial aptitude.
  • Ability to interpret concepts visualize completed parts and draw inferences.
  • Strong communication and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of sequencing processes and artistic ability to ascertain balance and proportion.
Physical Requirements:
  • Lifting 10-30 pounds occasionally with the potential for collaborative lifting due to awkward positioning.
