Job Summary

About the Position

As a Full Time Staging Supervisor youll hold a pivotal leadership role within our Senior Staging Team. This position supports the technical delivery training and development of our Staging operations with a particular focus on high-level operation Delivery team mentorship and team & system documentation.

This is a highly versatile role ideal for someone who thrives equally in live production environments and technical development projects. Youll contribute to productions and internal projects across our venues while actively supporting the growth and capability of our team from experienced crew to emerging talent.

This position works closely with the Manager Staging with responsibilities that span crew supervision equipment management Staging documentation and training delivery.

Full time ongoing position. Band 3.2 $85347.00 p.a. plus superannuation.

Key Responsibilities

Documentation & Systems Development

  • Create and maintain a broad range of technical documentation including hanging plots rigging diagrams venue Staging guides and Safety Documentation.
  • Support the continued development of Staging procedures and standards across ACM venues.

Training & Mentorship

  • Lead and assist in the training of Staging staff includingplanning internal staging traininginternal upskilling and structured training aligned with RTO delivery
  • Supervise plan and/or deliver the training for the Staging Trainees.
  • Support the growth of technical capability across the department through mentoring coaching and hands-on support.

Crew Leadership & Production Support

  • Supervise and lead Staging teams across pre-production load-ins rehearsals performances and load-outs.
  • Ensure work is carried out safely efficiently and in line with venue and production requirements.
  • Mentor and support casuals core staff trainees and new starters promoting a collaborative inclusive and safe working environment.
  • Provide high-level operation and deliver training in Counterweight Flying and Cat 4&5 automated fly systems

Technical Programming

  • Assist the Manager Staging with internal Staging Rigging and system documentation.

Asset Management

  • Keep up-to-date on the maintenance and repairs of the Flying Systems.
  • Support audit procurement and inventory processes.

What Were Looking For

Were seeking a confident and adaptable staging professional with:

  • Possess a relevant Diploma or higher at a recognised institution or a minimum of 5 years experience in leading stage crew in the event / theatre industry is required to fulfil this position.
  • Previous experience as a Head Mech or similar senior technical role
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead crews including training new staff
  • Strong technical expertise in Counterweight and Automated Fly systems
  • Knowledge of Rigging design
  • Experience in technical documentation creation

Desirable Attributes

  • A comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of technical theatre including building rigging operation of equipment and the relevant needs of opera drama dance concert production and the repertory format is required.
  • Experience in staging techniques and equipment including set design and building complex theatrical rigging manual and automated fly system operation automation systems orchestral layouts complex manual handling and loading logistics.
  • Experience in collaborating with teams coaching staff and assisting in their continuous learning and professional development with a focus on team building & team representation.
  • Preferred:
      • Basic Intermediate or Advanced Riggers licence
      • Elevated Work Platform licence up to 11 metres
      • Forklift licence
      • Occupational Health and Safety

The Production department sits within the Performing Arts pillar and comprises of a team that delivers production services for ACM across Staging Lighting Audio Broadcast Wardrobe Stage Management and Safety/Training to enable the safe and efficient delivery of events across all of our venues and spaces.
