The Behavioral Health Consultant position involves diagnosis and treatment of behavioral health concerns as well as designing behavioral health interventions to address barriers patients face in meeting their healthcare goals in a medical clinic position is well suited for those who enjoy collaborating in multidisciplinary team settings who are dynamic and outgoing and enjoy interfacing with patients and for those who love educating staff and patients about the benefits of healthcare integration. Duties/Responsibilities:
Below are the primary duties and essential functions of an employee in this position. While not all tasks may be performed by every employee in this role all employees are expected to perform related tasks as needed. - Maintain a visible presence to the medical providers during clinic operating hours.
- Available for same day and scheduled initial consultations with patients referred by medical providers.
- Assess patients and diagnose mental health and/or substance use disorders.ââ
- Create a treatment plan for patients based on the needs of the individual.ââ
- Conduct brief intervention sessions with patients with/without their families to work towards goals in treatment.â
- Performsbrief limited follow-up visits for selected patients.
- Referpatientsto other healthcare professionals when necessary.ââ
- Work with familymembersas needed as part of treatment for the patient.ââ
- Work with any patients in crisis situations evaluateriskandinitiateappropriateresponseto promote patient safety.â
- Complete CSSRS CALM and Safety Planning or other crisis tools and link to or provide necessary services that may include but are not limited to IPH admission crisis planning referral.ââ
- Complete mental health and substance use evaluations for IPH discharged patientshigh riskpatients critical care patients and patients referred from psychiatric inpatient facilities outside Bowen Health and other patients as needed and link them to necessary services.â
- Attendall required clinical supervision sessions and staff meetings.â
- Provide counseling services using evidenced based practices within CSO-approved clinical scope of practice and complete required documentation of servicesrendered.â
- Practice measurement-based care by the routine use of approved patient outcome measures.ââ
- Practice in full alignment with Bowen Health and professional trade association ethics codes including but not limited to maintaining strong appropriate provider-patient boundaries and avoiding dual relationships.ââ
- Maintain credentials with all applicable managed care contracts by completing the necessary paperwork and continuing education and returning it ona timelybasis.â
- Communicate effectively with primary care providersregardingpatient needs.ââ
- Develop understanding and use of basic medical terminology.â
- Other duties as assigned.

- Experience evaluating high-risk clients (which may be up to 75% of service providers caseload) who are receiving services before inpatient admission and after IPH discharge.

- Strong organizational skills time management and flexibility in daily practice.

- Knowledge of child developmentand community resources
- Knowledge of the impact of child abuse andneglectand other forms of trauma.

- Knowledge of brief therapeutic interventions and modalities.
- Ability to work with families and individuals on building motivation toparticipatein mental and physical health care.
- Ability to collaboratively document services at least 70% of the time while working with patients.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:Masters level degree in psychology or related field Ph.D. or PsyD from an accredited college or university.
- Certificate or Professional Licensure:
- LCAC LMFT LMHC LCSW or HSPP licensureand ability to practice in Indiana isrequired.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) -certification must be obtained afterhireand prior to providing direct patient care. This certification must bemaintainedand kept current through employment.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Aid -certification must be obtained afterhireand prior to providing direct patient certification must bemaintainedand kept current through employment.
- Experience:Preferminimum 2 years of work experience related to crisis work (risk assessment evaluations including suicidal and homicidal risk psychotic symptoms crisis evaluation tools such as CSSRS and crisis plans voluntary/involuntary admissions to IPH).âMust have class work related to family dynamics growth and development normative development childhood disorders syndromes and pathologies and age-appropriate treatment techniques.âPreferred experience working with high-risk patients.ââPreferred experience working in an integrated care setting with a multidisciplinary team.ââ
- Valid drivers license and activeautoinsurancecoverage.
- Satisfactory results from criminal and driving record background checks
- Must be aminimum21years of age.
