Description

The Chief Engineer Brachy Solutions provides technical leadership and innovation ownership for the Brachy portfolio driving technology strategy research & exploration intellectual property and R&D related funding activities reporting to the Head of R&D Brachy Solutions.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture:

• Define technical guardrails and product boundaries ensuring technical coherence and integration CoGS-savings adaptability and long-term sustainability of Brachy products.

• Monitor emerging technologies and align with the Heads of R&D and Product Management on the technical composition of the portfolio and technology roadmap in close collaboration with R&D system architects.

• Serve as the technical authority from product ideation through the full product lifecycle.

• Ensure robust compliant technical documentation and DDFs by providing technical oversight guidance and review.

Research Exploration & Innovation:

• Own the research collaborations key technical explorations feasibility studies and technology evaluations to de-risk roadmap execution and chair the Brachy Innovation Steering Group (ISG).

• Drive research activities and collaborations with universities hospitals and research institutes.

• Identify and mature new technologies for future product generations.

Intellectual Property:

• Own and drive a lean patent portfolio strategy in close collaboration with the Head of R&D.

• Monitor field IP assess FtO and summarize for potential impact.

• Generate strategic patents assess new ideas (IDFs) and support patent prosecution.

• Collaborate with Legal and outside counsel on Brachy IP-related matters.

R&D Subsidies & Funded Programs:

• Ensure technical content and execution of R&D subsidies and funded projects including research grants WBSO and innovation box activities.

• Ensure technical documentation and compliance for funded programs.

Technical Coaching & Advisory:

• Technical coaching of system architects and senior engineers.

• Ensure technical alignment with SCM to drive cost savings and ensure supply and roadmap execution.

• Support teams and suppliers with technical expertise when required.

• Act as escalation point for R&D and SCM teams for technical risks and problem resolution.

Accountable for:

• a clear technology roadmap ensuring technical coherence and integration of Brachy portfolio

• the effective selection and execution of research collaborations and key explorations

• a sound focused cost-effective patent portfolio ensuring robust IP protection and FtO

ensuring the content quality and timely submission of WBSO subsidy applications.

Authorities -

Authorized to:

• Define the technology roadmap and advise and challenge R&D SCM PSG and portfolio decisions from a technical perspective.

• Chair the Brachy ISG and initiate research and technical explorations within agreed scope and budget.

• Chair the Brachy patent review committee.

• Represent R&D in technical discussions with external partners and research institutions.

Relevant Knowledge skills and competEncies -

Formal Education:

• Represent R&D in technical discussions with external partners and research institutions.

Experience & Knowledge:

• 10 years of relevant work experience in the medical device industry.

• Extensive technical expertise and strong knowledge of applicable regulations and standards.

• Experience in FtO analysis and strategic patent filing prosecution and opposition.

• Experience with risk management requirement management project management Agile/Scrum Quality Management Systems audits and subcontracting.

Personal Attributes Skills & Competencies:

• Excellent technical acumen with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences in English and preferably also in Dutch.
