The University of Nevada Las Vegas invites applications forHead Web and Application Development Services UNLV University Libraries R0150024.

ROLE of the POSITION

UNLV University Libraries seeks nominations and applications for an experienced and collaborative administrative faculty member to serve as Head Web and Application Development position serves as a department leader and technical manager leading a department responsible for designing developing customizing deploying and supporting the Libraries websites and web applications including open source applications such as Islandora Drupal and associated locally developed to the Director Library Technologies this position manages collaborative projects of various size and scope encouraging effective time management communication and creative problem-solving amongst project team ideal candidate combines hands-on web management and development skills with high-level strategic vision helping to guide and extend capabilities of the Libraries web presence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise lead mentor and motivate 5 FTE administrative faculty (3 web developers; application developer; web content and user experience specialist) including setting goals defining expectations performing evaluations encouragement for professional development and the planning prioritization and assignment of their work.
  • Identify prioritize and manage projects during all phases of project work including definition of project scope; analyzation of stakeholder requirements; determination of required resources and constraints; development of project plans and timelines; encouragement for shared ownership of deliverables; and provide regular stakeholder communication throughout all phases of a project.
  • Act as a liaison and facilitate effective communication between technical and less-technical colleagues. Help train or otherwise familiarize library stakeholders on capabilities processes and workflows associated with the web environment.
  • Work with department and other Libraries technical professionals to collaboratively maintain the web infrastructure including the assessment of new software versions systems modules and associated workflows.
  • Help manage external vendor relationship(s) which are utilized to help support the Libraries web environment.
  • Draft provide guidance for and otherwise contribute to clear and appropriate web related documentation instructions and workflows. Ensure personnel compliance to coding standards methods guidelines and appropriate documentation.
  • Monitor and manage applications which may be used to track project progress submit troubleshooting issues etc.
  • Monitor news and developments in open-source development communities for applications used at the Libraries (e.g. Drupal Islandora ArchivesSpace) and collaborate with such communities to the extent it benefits local operations.

This position may be eligible for a flexiblework arrangement in accordance withtheUNLV Flexible Work Policyand is evaluated on a case by case basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and five or more years of experience in a relevant profession with at least three years of experience supervising technical staff. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

  • Knowledge of one or more current web markup stylesheet and/or scripting languages associated with front-end web development (e.g. HTML CSS JavaScript).
  • Knowledge of one or more current programming/ scripting languages used primarily for back-end application development (e.g. PHP Python).
  • Knowledge of APIs and associated data formats (e.g. JSON XML).
  • Experience with professional web content management system(s).
  • Knowledge of software development practices and the steps of software design including source code management and prior experience with a software version control repository.
  • Knowledge of user centered design and digital accessibility standards and requirements.
  • Demonstrated project management experience including the ability to manage complex projects with a variety of team members and stakeholders.
  • Experience guiding directing and motivating staff by setting performance standards assessing performance and coordinating and reviewing work.
  • Experience creating / maintaining documentation (i.e. processes standards procedures workflows).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with the Drupal content management system including tasks of page design theming plugin development maintenance and administration.
  • Experience with the Islandora open source digital asset management system.
  • Experience using Docker for implementing automated processes for deployment scaling and management of containerized applications.
  • Experience with the GitLab software version control repository.
  • Experience working with Google Sites and other Google enterprise applications.
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization and website analytics tools preferably Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.
  • Experience with emerging AI tools used to assist with code production / review / debugging activities
  • Evidence of continued relevant learning / skills development such as completed professional certifications.
