Position Overview: Helix Aviation Academy is seeking a dynamic dedicated and student-centered individual to serve as our Head Football Coach and Physical Education/Health Teacher. This dual-role position is ideal for a passionate educator and coach who is committed to fostering athletic excellence academic achievement and personal growth in students.
Key Responsibilities:
As Head Football Coach:
- Lead and manage all aspects of the high school football program.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training program emphasizing skill development teamwork sportsmanship and safety.
- Recruit and mentor assistant coaching staff.
- Collaborate with school administration athletic director and parents to promote a positive team culture.
- Monitor academic progress and character development of student-athletes.
- Ensure compliance with school district and state athletic regulations.
- Organize practices conditioning sessions games travel arrangements and off-season programs.
As P.E./Health Teacher:
- Plan and deliver engaging standards-based lessons in physical education and health for high school students.
- Promote lifelong fitness wellness and healthy lifestyle habits.
- Assess and evaluate student performance and progress.
- Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and support student success.
Additional Expectations:
- All staff are expected to sponsor one club or Enrichment during school hours when scheduled. Additional pay is not provided as this is a part of every teachers job role.
- All teachers who teach at Helix Community Schools will be expected to constantly grow in the use of technology to enhance student learning because we are a part of Verizon Innovative Learning Schools and genuinely believe in digital equity for our students.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelors degree in Physical Education Health or a related field.
- Valid LA teaching certification or eligibility for certification in P.E. and Health.
- Coaching experience preferably in football with demonstrated leadership skills.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and the role of athletics in education.
- CPR/First Aid and concussion management certifications (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred:
- Masters degree in Education Health Sciences Sports Management or related field.
- Previous experience as a head coach or coordinator at the high school level.
- Experience in strength and conditioning program design.
