Lays out work constructs forms and places reinforcing steel as required for structures such as curbs gutters sidewalks culverts steps foundations slabs and walls.
Pours smoothes and finishes concrete to the desired grade and contour.
Excavates to grade and prepares soil for pouring of concrete.
Assists in establishing grades and sets line stakes.
Supervises workers and laborers as assigned.
Mix concrete.
Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites which may include combination truck units with trailers of 6000 pounds gross vehicle weight or over.
Drives vehicles or equipment with gross vehicle weight rating of 26001 pounds or more.
Requirements to Qualify:
OPTION I:
Completion of a recognized cement mason apprenticeship training program* of at least three years duration.
-OR-
OPTION II:
Four years of experience in cement and concrete work one year of which must have been at the journey-level.**
LICENSE:
Failure to provide the required documentation will result in application rejection.

Our Assessment Process:
This examination will consist of a multiple choice test covering Masonry and Safety On-The-Job weighted at 100%.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.
THE MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST IS NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.
Final results will be sent via the email provided in your government job profile. Test scores cannot be given over the phone.
Eligibility Information:
You will move through the assessment process and if you pass we will place your results on a eligible list. We will then invite the highest scoring group to an interview. The list of everyone who passed is valid for twelve (12) months.
Applications will be processed on an as-received basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligiblelist accordingly.
No person may participate in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months; doing so will result in the rejection of your application.

Veterans Credit:
Pursuant to the County Charter and County policy in all open competitive examinations (i.e. examinations open to everyone) the County of Los Angeles will add a credit of 10 percent of the total credits specified for such examination to the final passing score of an honorably discharged veteran as well as the spouse of a deceased or disabled veteran who served in the Armed Forces of the United States under specific conditions.
