Job Summary: The position is responsible for providing visionary leadership and effective supervision to ensure the development implementation and continuous improvement of a high-quality student-centered learning environment. This role is responsible for evaluating and supporting professional staff; monitoring curriculum delivery and instructional effectiveness; and ensuring alignment with School Board policies administrative regulations and district priorities. The Principal provides timely actionable feedback to teachers to strengthen instructional practices and improve student outcomes.
This position will play a critical leadership role in the preparation planning and launch of Waterloo United High School. The Principal will work closely with district leadership and current high school teams to align existing programming and intentionally funnel students into a coherent unified United High School experience. Responsibilities include comprehensive academic planning for grades 812; academic and athletic staffing projections and hiring; and long-range planning to ensure programmatic continuity equity and excellence.
The Principal will also supervise the Waterloo Career Center and all Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming ensuring strong vertical articulation of academic pathways student supports and career readiness opportunities. This role collaborates extensively with the District Leadership Team (DLT) - particularly the Director of Secondary Education - to ensure alignment coherence and consistency across all secondary academic and athletic programs.
This position will be full release for the and school years. Upon the opening of the building in the school year the principal will be located on-site and will assume responsibility for overseeing day-to-day operations.
Hiring Specifications:
Education
- Masters degree or higher from an accredited college or university with courses such as school administration; school supervision; school curriculum; problems issues and trends in education; educational measurement; child psychology; guidance; school finance school law and educational research
Certification
- Eligibility for Iowa Department of Education endorsement as a school principal
Experience
- Three (3) or more years of previous experience as a building principal
- Five (5) or more years of successful classroom teaching experience
