Job Summary
The Equine and Nemo Farm Animal Hospital seeks a veterinary technician who can demonstrate a team-based approach and mindset. The ability to communicate quickly and directly thrive under pressure and learn continuously is key to enjoying this innovative and challenging environment. The ENFAH Surgery Technician will provide high quality technical support to equine and farm animal patients their owners and referring veterinarians as well as clinicians other staff and students.
The job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Works closely with the surgeons anesthesiology imaging and other members of the surgical team to provide a safe comfortable environment where the patient receives the highest standard of care
- Assists in management of the daily flow of surgeries which includes but is not limited to communicating across the services preparation of the surgery rooms with equipment and supplies assisting with the anesthetic inductions patient positioning surgical clipping and preparation and transporting patients to surgical suite.
- Assists the surgeons surgery house staff and students with scheduled and emergency surgical procedures.
- Acts as circulating technician during procedures
- Maintains and troubleshoots equipment malfunctions during surgical procedures
- Ensures that patient charges entered in the Hospitals Information System are complete and accurate.
Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire which will be paid for by the department.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited institution or equivalent experience plus New York State Licensure or eligibility to be licensed.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience preferably in an OR setting.
- Excellent communication team building and organizational skills.
- Able to work with multiple large animal species not limited to equine and bovine.
- Must be able to work in an often fast-paced and demanding environment while paying close attention to details.
- Must have the ability to meet the physical demands of the position which include but not limited to stressful situations prolonged standing and kneeling lifting and restraining animals that may exceed 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a medical or veterinary office preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology veterinary medicine medical records systems and scheduling systems
- Previous experience with scheduling and greeting patients/clients
- Experience in a high-volume caseload environment
Important Details about the Position
- This is an onsite position located in Ithaca NY.
- We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship now or in the future for this position.

The Cornell University Hospital for Animals provides 24-hour care for pets 365 days of the year. The schedule for this position requires flexibility to ensure that adequate patient care and service needs are provided without interruption or exception. Schedule will require/include weekend holiday and night shifts as well as weekend day shifts. Cross-training with other services to support business continuity will be expected as time/business need allows. If business needs change a position/individual may be realigned within the CUHA to a different shift or service.
