The Hospital Operations Department provides operational oversight of furniture fixtures equipment (FFE) office space utilization procurement printing operations risk management mailroom delivery of mail packages supplies and building management of the Robert Hawkins Building at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo.

Description of Job

***THIS IS A 100% In-Person Position**
This position is scheduled Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm

You are required to work at your assigned work location during your scheduled work times.



Purpose of Position:
This position develops policies and procedures manages the day to day operations directs resources provides recommendations on budget issues related to the operation of the Robert Hawkins Building and prioritizes risk management issues. This position acts as liaison between the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Division of Facilities Management (DFM) Nutrition Services Safety and Risk Management treatment units and clinical departments in the building. Duties in this position include:

Building Safety and Security Oversight:
  • ensures patient and public safety through ongoing assessment of risk factors in the Robert Hawkins Building
  • management of personal duress alarms; access authorization of electronic key and prox-card systems management and authorization for patient visits in the Hawkins Building
  • works with Program Directors and others to identify and resolve building safety and/or security management issues
  • coordinates whole unit patient movement during building repairs or scheduled maintenance
  • review critical incident reports as related to building safety issues and impact on clinical risk indicators
  • assures safety for the public patients and staff through specialized training
  • provides recommendations and reports to the Director of Hospital Operations and CMHIP CEO regarding security needs and procedures
  • conducts searches of visitation dining rooms interview rooms courtrooms room and spiritual care areas monthly

Facility Management:
  • reviews/initiates all Robert Hawkins Building special maintenance requests for necessity before forwarding to Risk Management Facilities Management (DFM) and CMHIP Public Safety (DPS)
  • liaison to Facilities Management and Safety Risk Management for the allocation and distribution of keys (including DPS) completion of work orders building repairs improvement projects modifications and office moves and allocations
  • oversee Furniture Fixtures and Equipment (FFE) repairs by coordinating the repair or replacement of damaged FFE with the Director of Hospital Operations FFE coordinator and evaluating and requesting new or replacement FFE in the Hawkins building
  • oversee special activity set-ups and take-downs; coordinate with Nutrition Services regarding Dining Room equipment needs; conduct a daily walkthrough of the Hawkins building to evaluate building conditions
  • coordinates FFE moves within the Hawkins building and to/from the building and other locations on campus
  • facilitates every other month building operations meetings
Property Management:
  • Maintain daily contact with the CMHIP Department of Public Safety various hospital disciplines and the Unit Teams regarding the approval of necessary supplies and approving personal property allowed within all buildings

Training and New Employee Orientation:

Coordinate and conduct training and new employee orientation on the following:

  • use and policy related to the Key and Prox-card system

  • use and policy related to the Key Retainer Box

  • use and policy related to the Personal Duress Alarms (PDAs)

  • use and policy related to the duress Lightbar and duress response

  • use and policy related to the emergency equipment location and operation

  • use and policy related to the fire drill and evacuation procedures

Other Duties as Assigned:

  • it is the policy of Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo (CMHIP) to provide tours of the facility in order to acquaint people with CMHIPs mission to foster better understanding of mental health issues and to dispel misconceptions about and reduce the stigma frequently associated with persons with mental illness

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience Only:


Seven (7) yearsof relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position


OR


Education and Experience:


A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to seven (7)years


Preferred Qualifications:

  • experience managing building or facility operations including FFE space utilization procurement and administrative workflows

  • demonstrate the ability to develop and implement policies oversee daily operations and prioritize risk management needs

  • effective communication and collaboration with partners such as Public Safety Facilities Management Nutrition Services and clinical departments

  • solid problem-solving skills budget awareness and the ability to coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced hospital environment

  • Successfully pass all modules of the CMHIP New Employee Orientation core curriculum to include English reading
    comprehension relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics.
  • Possess the physical ability to use current hospital-required verbal and physical intervention trainin
  • Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist
  • Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take-down
  • Withstand impact on own body using an ASP shield;
  • Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for using a defensive tactic;
  • Kneel on one or both knees and stand up again with multiple repetitions
  • Must be able to see and hear to observe address and respond to potential breaches in safety
  • Seize hold control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury.
  • Demonstrate body agility strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently.
  • Work in situations involving assaultive behavior physical control of another person and/or restraint situations
  • Ability to read and comprehend the English language; effectively and fluently communicates in English both
    verbally and in writing
  • work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors
    in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work setting
  • 2-step TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire
  • Annual influenza vaccination other vaccinations as required by the State and facility
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:

  • Disclose that information on the application.

CDHS Selection Process Explanation

Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
