Job Summary

CAMP COUNSELOR / ASSISTANT COACH

Age: At Minimum - Must have graduated High School. Most of our counselors are college-aged.
Experience: It is preferable for a counselor to have worked at least one summer in a summer camp environment and/or to have significant childcare experience. Personal camp experience is also desirable. It is also preferable and desired for a counselor to be athletic have a high level of physical fitness.

The Role:
6 Points Sports Academy Counselors have three simultaneous roles: Counselor Coach and Educator.
  • Directly responsible for all campers living in the dorms a counselor has day-to-day involvement with each camper as an individual and with the entire group. He or she must see that every individual camper makes friends becomes acclimated to life at camp grows towards his or her potential and becomes a part of the total camp community. It is the counselors job to act as the early warning system for campers with problems that may have to be referred to other staff. Counselors live in the dorms with the campers present at all times.
  • Coaches are responsible for improving the athletic skills and abilities of their campers. They are relied upon by the Head Coaches to help implement coaching plans. Sports majors are opportunities for coaches to use their personal experiences to teach challenge and empower campers.
  • You will also coach and run electives recreational activities designed for campers to have fun. If you have a special talent skill or unique sport/activity that you would like to lead please let us know! We are always expanding our elective offerings at camp.
  • Educators assist the Director of Jewish life and Faculty to create memorable Jewish experiences for their campers. Educators participate in and help their campers participate in TFilah. Educators help create and run developed programs that connect campers to the Jewish values lived at camp. Whether in the dorms on the field in the dining hall or in transition educators take advantage of opportunities to demonstrate Jewish values and teach the meaning of Jewish values to campers. Educators work with the Director of Jewish Life to bind both deliberate and opportunistic educational experiences to create an organic Jewish curriculum.

A counselor is responsible for:
  • Regular enthusiastic participation in Camp programming
  • Teaching and assisting Head Coaches in Sport Majors
  • Organizing and leading Sport Electives
  • Helping organize and leading evening programs
  • Partnering with other counselors and staff programming and camper supervision
  • Insuring that all campers exercise good hygiene and health practices
  • Notifying immediate supervisor and the nurse of any suspected health problems
  • Keeping resident facilities clean and good repair
  • Helping campers keep track of their belongings
  • Knowing all emergency procedures and making sure they are posted in the bunk
  • Reporting all successes and issues to Unit Heads through daily camper reports
  • Attending pre-camp orientation and all staff meetings

Salary:
Salaries range from $1800-2400 for a full summer commitment based on experience and skill

Summer 2026 Dates:
  • Staff Training Week begins Monday June 8.
  • Attendance at training camp is mandatory and some pre-arrival required online meetings and training are also required.
  • Camp runs with campers from June 16 - July 27

Travel Reimbursement:
  • Travel may be reimbursed up to $500 for flights or gas to get to and from camp depending on travel distance

Room and Board:
  • Dormitory housing is provided as well as all three meals (& multiple snacks) in the campus dining hall

6 Points Sports Academy is located in beautiful Asheville NC on the state-of-the-art athletic and camp facilities of Asheville School which is widely regarded as the most beautiful boarding overnight camp facilities in the Southern part of the United States.
We are so proud of our growth we opened in 2010 with 60 campers and now every summer we welcomed over 850 campers to our facility to assist them in reaching their goals of becoming better athletes Jews and humans. At 6 Points athletes from 37 different states and 8 different countries participate in a unique camping experience that offers top-level sports coaching and all the beloved traditions of overnight camping. Within our kind and nurturing community campers form friendships for life while feeding their passion for their chosen sport - and achieve a higher quality of life as young Jewish athletes.
6 Points campers are entering 4th - 11th grade girls and boys who are looking to improve their skill level meet new friends and explore their own Jewish identity (you do not need to be Jewish to work at camp). During each day of our two-week long session campers participate in 4 hours of intensive skill development in one chosen sport (their sports major) and 2 hours of electives.
