Job Responsibilities
Under general supervision plans coordinates and directs the actions of security staff and oversees security custody and control of inmates in a medium/maximum security correctional facility.
Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property as it relates to the Restricted Housing Unit (RHU) buildings and property.
Performs security randomly check (4) cells for proper temperature and sanitation on shift post checks and remain thoroughly familiar with security status of all RHU inmates and ensure officers/other security correctional employees are informed about inmates who require special supervision.
Direct and supervise an inspection program to detect and correct deficiencies in security safety sanitation and maintenance of RHU; to include that of subordinate officers to ensure proper job performance.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelors degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
- A high school diploma three (3) years experience in correctional security military or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above 1 year).
- Must be certified by the South Carolina Department of Corrections Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
