TheOffice of Indigenous Education Research and Engagement(OIERE)

is responsible for providing the leadership and strategic direction for RMITs whole-of-university approach to reconciliation and engagement efforts and activities.

The Ngarara Willim Centre sits within the OIERE and is a culturally safe space and promotes self-determination and success of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and Community. The team support students in their educational journey and equipping them with the skills knowledge and a sense of belonging.

They offer ongoing guidance with study living and cultural needs and help students to reach their full potential.

About the role

The Advisor Indigenous Student Success is responsible for the delivery and implementation of Indigenous Student success strategies that increase the retention progression and completion outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Students.

The Indigenous Student Success Officer builds strong purposeful connections with Indigenous Students throughout their educational experience at RMIT and works in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to support the success of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students.

To be successful in this position youll haveas a minimum:

  • Knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an understanding of community needs particularly the educational and personal support needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build rapport with staff students and the community and a demonstrated ability to manage sensitive matters in a professional and culturally appropriate manner.

  • The ability to find tailor and deliver information effectively to a diverse range of people.

  • Proven strong organisational skills sound analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively and flexibly as a member of a team.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven computer literacy.

  • Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise tasks to show initiative and judgement.

Qualifications

A tertiary qualification is desirable but not essential. Applicants without formal tertiary qualifications must have an appropriate level of professional expertise gained through experience preferably in the tertiary education sector
