The Airport at Ole Miss serves both the University and the general public. We provide services to support travel for students administration athletics and visitors. The airport staff is a small close-knit team that stands on a culture of safety teamwork and accountability.

Role Summary

The Assistant Airport Manager supports the Airport Manager in overseeing the daily operations maintenance and business functions of The University-Oxford Airport a public-use general aviation airport. This role assists in ensuring compliance with federal state and local aviation regulations while fostering strong relationships with based tenants pilots community stakeholders and service providers.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on detail-oriented professional with experience in general aviation operations a strong customer service ethic and a proactive approach to problem-solving and facility improvement.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Assist in managing day-to-day airport operations including airfield inspections facility upkeep and tenant relations.
  • Monitor compliance with FAA regulations (especially applicable elements of FAR Part 139) as well as local ordinances and airport rules.
  • Serve as a point of contact for pilots FBO staff and airport users to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Support airport maintenance and capital improvement projects in coordination with engineers contractors and government agencies.
  • Assist in preparing the airport budget tracking expenses and applying for FAA or state aviation grants (e.g. AIP NPE).
  • Coordinate and participate in emergency response planning and drills.
  • Maintain airport records inspection logs leases and operational reports.
  • Support marketing business development and community outreach initiatives to attract more based aircraft and aviation activity.
  • Act as the Airport Manager during their absence.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong working knowledge of airport operations safety practices and facility maintenance.
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations ACs and state DOT aviation programs.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office basic GIS mapping and airport inspection or work order software.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions during off-hours or emergencies.

Work Environment:

  • Mix of indoor office work and outdoor airfield duties.
  • Exposure to aircraft noise weather conditions and light physical labor.
  • May require occasional weekend or evening availability for events emergencies or inclement weather.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include but are not limited to the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

1. Assists in managing day-to-day aviation operations focused on operational efficiency and compliance with regulatory and organizational operating policies procedures and standards.
2. Supervises and assists airport staff to ensure efficient airport operation.
3. Assists in scheduling flights aircraft maintenance grounds maintenance and work assignments to meet airport needs.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education: Bachelors Degree

Experience: (1) One Year Experience

Licensure: Valid drivers license

Preferred Qualifications

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Prior supervisory or project coordination experience (preferred).
  • Pilot certificate or familiarity with flight operations (preferred not required).
  • AAAE Certified Member (CM) or ability to obtain within 18 months (preferred).
  • Ability to pass background check and obtain airport access credentials.
