The Pediatric BMT Team seeks an Advanced Practice Practitioner (PA or NP) to successfully provide care to both the inpatient and outpatient pediatric population atHelen DeVos Childrens Hospital receiving treatment with autologous or allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant CAR T-cell therapy or gene therapy for hematologic diseases.
A successful candidate will work within the highly functional BMT space caring for patients from infancy through adolescence within the Helen DeVos Childrens Hospital locations. Join a collaborative team of total of 3 APPs working across in-patient and out-patient care within the BMT setting.
In addition to BMT patient provide care and oversight to patients present in our outpatient infusion center. This would include working with infusion nurses to respond to infusions complications addressing treatment plans and coordinating care with primary teams.
The ideal candidate will:
Demonstrate knowledge of risk factors and presentations of common medical conditions and be able to continuously add to that knowledge with experience.
Perform a clinical history and physical assessment that is accurate concise relevant and complete and be able to communicate this both verbally and in the electronic medical record.
Experience in the care of Hem/Onc or BMT patients would be preferred
Have experience with EPIC
Order and interpret relevant diagnostic studies and synthesize the data to develop and implement plans of care
Counsel and educate patients families and communities of care as needed
Participate in QI/ performance activities and implement standards of care (policies and protocols)
Be able to support a flexible schedule with the BMT APPs to support appropriate coverage for patients.
Weekend responsibility includes: variable weekends - Onsite: Sat & Sun - 4hrs each day
Specific duties may include:
Inpatient:
Participating in daily rounding collaborating with the team to adjust plans of care
Triaging outside calls and consultations
Work with a variety of learners (medical students residents and fellows) in addition to attendings and other APPs
Be amongst the team of physicians APPs clinical coordinators pediatric pharmacists MSW and intake coordinators to provide fully comprehensive care
Consult appropriate services
Providing prescriptions and appropriate testing for patient care
Managing the clinical in-basket as needed
Providing timely communication to patients and staff for management of patient health care needs
Facilitate admissions and referrals to community health facilities agencies and resources
Discharge patients at the direction of the attending physician dictate discharge summary and coordinate outpatient care.
Outpatient:
Complete outpatient patient visits alongside another provider
Work with a variety of learners (medical students residents and fellows) in addition to attendings and other APPs
Be amongst the team of physicians APPs clinical coordinators pediatric pharmacists MSW and intake coordinators to provide fully comprehensive care
Consult appropriate services
Providing prescriptions and appropriate testing for patient care
Providing timely communication to patients and staff for management of patient health care needs
Facilitate admissions and referrals to community health facilities agencies and resources
Work with infusion nurses to provide oversight and care to infusion patients
Qualifications:
Nurse Practitioner:
Required Masters Degree Nurse Practitioners
3 years of relevant experience current relevant clinical experience Required
Previous experience functioning in a collaborative role Required
Experience as a Nurse Practitioner Preferred
Registered Nurse (RN) - State of Michigan
Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA American Heart Association
Physician Assistant:
Required Masters Degree Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program
State of Michigan License
Physician Asst Certified (PA-C) - NCCPA National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA American Heart Association 120 Days required
