Job Responsibilities
Under supervision of the special education director and school leader
- Individualizes instruction to meet the academic needs of inmate students at the secondary level.
- These academic needs may be in the areas of literacy Pre-GED GED or High School Units.
- Plans and conducts classes based on federal and state regulations for the education of students with disabilities.
- Interviews and screens incoming students to establish learning rapport and eligibility for special program services.
- Maintains records of student attendance and class progress to include periodic updates of IEPS and statistical reports as required.
- Plans and prepares student learning activities including developing curriculum based on students- needs abilities and interests to be utilized in the learning process.
- Provides appropriate instruction to students according to their needs abilities and interests to ensure student progress.
- Provides supervision that safeguards students & aids in security.
- Performs other related duties.
Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A valid South Carolina teaching credential. Certification in secondary math science social studies English/Language arts or special educational preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification in secondary math science social studies English/Language arts or special educational preferred.
