Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) travel assignment. This role involves caring for critically ill cardiac and post-cardiac surgery patients in a high-acuity ICU environment utilizing advanced cardiac devices and evidence-based critical care practices.
Scheduling & Contract Details
Shift: Nights 7:00 PM 7:00 AM
Schedule: 3 shifts per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday as needed
Orientation: 16 hours (non-billable)
Charting System: EPIC (required)
First-Time Travelers: Accepted
Local Candidates: Not accepted within a 75-mile radius
Call-Off Policy: Up to 3 shifts may be canceled during the 13-week contract
Required Licensure & Certifications
Active New York State RN License (NY is not a compact state)
BLS ACLS NIHSS Required
Pending licenses not accepted
Required Clinical Experience & Skills
Arterial line management
Central line PICC line care and management
Blood product administration
Ventilator management HFNC BiPAP/CPAP
Continuous IV sedation paralytics emergency medications
Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
CABG patient care
Advanced cardiac devices: Impella IABP LVAD/RVAD Swan-Ganz monitoring
CRRT/CVVHD experience
Dysrhythmia interpretation and 12-lead EKG acquisition
ABG interpretation
Chest tube care and assistance with insertion/removal
Infection prevention PPE usage
Wound vac care
Management of multisystem organ failure patients
Unit Details
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:
Standard: 1:2
Impella patients: 1:2 with occasional 1:1 based on acuity
Unit Size: 16 beds
Patient Population Includes:
Post-cardiac surgery
Heart failure
Sepsis ARDS renal failure
CRRT ECMO EKOS
Post-cardiac arrest with targeted temperature management
Respiratory failure shock and multi-organ dysfunction
Floating: Required within skillset
Scrub Color: Navy blue and white combinations
