Job Summary

Student Accessibility Services:

Student Accessibility Services (SAS) works with 4000 students with disabilities every year to facilitate equal access and reasonable accommodations. SAS works closely with faculty Housing and other departments to ensure disabled students experience equal opportunity to the campus experience. SAS also explores ways in which the UCF experience can be proactively designed with disability access and inclusion considered from the outset so as to minimize the need for reactive accommodations. Overall SAS accessibility work spans most areas of campus with opportunities for various engagement and the ability to make a campus impact.

The Opportunity:

UCFs Student Accessibility Services (SAS) seeks candidates with experience in disability services for The Assistant Director of Access and Accommodations Operations. The Assistant Director of Access and Accommodations Operations is responsible for facilitating access to courses programs services activities and facilities for students with disabilities through broad access and accommodation work as well as specific management of housing accommodations and other accommodation processes based on operational need.

Classification Title: Assistant Director Accessibility Services

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with students to determine reasonable accommodations and coordinate with faculty as necessary; participate in team accommodation reviews; collaborates with SAS team members regarding student issues and concerns internal procedures and processes and access outreach efforts with UCF faculty and staff.

  • Responsible for leading the housing accommodation coordination between SAS and UCF Housing while working in collaboration with SAS staff and Housing staff; address higher level student concerns with housing accommodations.

  • Lead and coordinate specific accommodation processes (such as but not limited to flexible attendance accommodation) SAS resources (such as but not limited to Johnson Scholarship) and SAS outreach (such as but not limited to faculty resource coordination and UCF orientation).

  • SAS Liaison as needed for UCF Downtown Rosen and Connect Campuses which includes but is not limited to meeting with UCF staff on campus issues attending occasional campus resource fairs and resolving higher level student situations.

  • Advance the disability access and inclusion efforts by collaborating with various stakeholders to create a more naturally accessible campus experience; Analyze disability matters from both an environmental and an individual perspective to determine how to influence design and when to facilitate reasonable accommodations as necessary.

  • Participate in the development of programming resources services and activities that bring greater understanding the limitations of the environment and its impact on an individuals disability experience.

  • Support SAS in other access and accommodation efforts as needed while maintaining awareness of trends and practices in the field that advance SAS work at the highest levels (such as but not limited to professional development).

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors and 4 years of relevant experience or Masters degree and 2 years of relevant experience with at least 1 year(s) of leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 years of experience working in a higher education disability office or similar environment.

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams or managing complex processes within student services or accessibility programs.

  • Experience facilitating accommodations for individuals with disabilities including housing and academic accommodations.

  • Familiarity with ADA Section 504 and other federal/state disability laws and regulations.

  • Experience with accommodation management systems/databases (Accessibility Information Management (AIM) or similar platforms).

  • Strong ability to collaborate with campus partners to advance accessibility on campus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for outreach and training initiatives.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $48722-$55000. The final salary will be determined based on the candidates qualifications experience and internal equity considerations.
