Evening weekend and or distance offerings for UH Maui College and or Outreach sites (Hana Lanai Molokai) may be assigned as part of the regular workload.
Position may be converted from 11-month to 9-month based on program/operational needs.
As a full-time instructor in the Dental Hygiene program this position will assist the program coordinator in the continued development and effectiveness of the program.
Duties & Responsibilities:- Teach a full range of courses in the Dental Hygiene program.
- Assist in the coordination of didactic and clinical phases of the curriculum.
- Maintain and screen clinical affiliations student assignments and supervision.
- Work with the program advisory committee to help ensure that the program meets the needs of the dental community.
- Review and revise as needed course requirements and competencies to align with program standards for admission and graduation.
- Assist the program with grant opportunities to help support the program; includes implementation and documentation of activities for midterm and final reports to the Grantors.
- Participate in setting the semester schedule of program courses.
- Inventory supplies and report issues regarding maintenance of equipment and ensure that it is in safe and proper working order.
- Assist the program coordinator with the selection of textbooks supplies and equipment within the allocated budget.
- Participate in orientation sessions for potential students.
- Serve on the dental hygiene admissions committee and participate in interviews and proctoring of writing exercises.
- Develop and update the dental hygiene student handbook and other duties as assigned or necessary to meet program needs.

Minimum Qualifications:- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DDM) ANDa current State of Hawaii License
OR
- Masters Degree in Health or a Health-related field AND a Bachelors Degree in Dental Hygiene AND a current State of Hawaii License and certified in the administration of intra-oral infiltration local anesthesia and intra-oral block anesthesia by an accredited Dental Hygiene school or by a certification program previously approved by the Board of Dental Examiners
OR
- Bachelors Degree in Dental Hygiene AND three (3) years related work experience AND currently certified as a Dental Hygienist AND a current State of Hawaii License ANDcertified in the administration of intra-oral infiltration local anesthesia and intra-oral block anesthesia by an accredited Dental Hygiene school or by a certification program previously approved by the Board of Dental Examiners
OR
- Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene AND a Bachelors Degree in any field AND five (5) years related work experience and registered as a Dental Hygienist AND a current State of Hawaii LicenseAND certified in the administration of intra-oral infiltration local anesthesia and intra-oral block anesthesia by an accredited Dental Hygiene school or by a certification program previously approved by the Board of Dental Examiners.
Desirable Qualifications: - Successful community college teaching experience
- Experience working with OR as a Dental Hygienist
- Knowledge of curriculum development tests and measurements sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population;
- Skill in communicating effectively with students faculty and staff and the ability to maintain effective working relationships
- Experience in a community-based dental clinic.
- The ability to apply knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture to effectively collaborate with multicultural groups and individuals from diverse academic cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
