In NC we operate three pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that are responsible for fulfilling different steps in our injectable and oral treatment supply chains. Our newer Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) facility in Clayton NC sits on 825000 square-feet of state-of-the-art equipment and houses the Fermentation Recovery and Purification in the production of ingredients for Novo Nordisks innovative oral products. The Position

Provide support for the safe work permitting process for the facility. Perform Permit Vision for work requests and process through the permit life cycle including review/approve/issue permits review/approve/execute ICCs (LOTO) and review/approve Flush & Drain Plans.

Relationships

Reports to Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Recognize the conditions of work that require Lockout/Tagout
  • Assess all hazardous energy sources including electrical mechanical hydraulic pneumatic chemical thermal and other sources in machines equipment and systems which can be hazardous to employees & other stakeholders onsite
  • Use documented procedures and approved isolation devices to implement Lockout/Tagout
  • Must adhere to key elements of OSHA regulations known onsite as the Ten Life Safety Rules
  • Adhere to all Quality & Environmental regulations within area of responsibility
  • Support identification of hazards and associated mitigation plans
  • Maintain standards & operational procedures for the Central Permit Office (CPO)
  • Work daily with computer programs to perform tasks (Microsoft office suite CMMS (SAP) Permit Vision Robex etc.)
  • Occasionally make decisions of minor importance which may affect the work operations of employees & other key stakeholders to a moderate degree
  • Follow all safety and environmental requirements in the performance of duties
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

Moves equipment &/or supplies weighing up to 33 pounds within the facility using various body positions. Routinely operates & inspects manufacturing equipment using hands. Strap & unstrap pallets using hands. Must be able to be on your feet for up to a 12-hour shift. May require corrected vision to 20/20 or 20/25 based on role. May require color vision based on role. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder. May be required to work at elevated heights. Occasionally works around odorous &/or hazardous materials. May be required to wear latex gloves. May perform critical job functions in extremely cold work environments depending on site. May position oneself within confined spaces for inspection if required of the role. Ability to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection. May be required to secure a motorized vehicle license & operate a motorized vehicle based on the role.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED required
  • May consider an Associates Degree in Mechanical Electrical Industrial Engineering Industrial Technology or relevant field of study from an accredited university with a minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in engineering technology maintenance manufacturing or utilities preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in engineering technology maintenance manufacturing or utilities required
  • Knowledge & experience in the operations &/or maintenance of utilities &/or manufacturing equipment preferred
  • Experience working in a regulated environment (FDA cGMP OSHA) preferred
  • Ability to use appropriate PPE including PAPR required
  • Willingness to join and actively participate in the Emergency Response Team (ERT) preferred
  • Ability to read/review and understand P&ID PFD electrical schematics required
  • Strong communication skills across multiple organizational levels preferred
  • Understanding of Safe Work Practices required
  • Experience identifying and isolating hazards (LOTO) preferred
  • Willingness to join and actively participate as Health & Safety Representative (HSR) preferred
