Job Summary

Are you passionate about driving the electrification revolution Join us to tackle challenges in power conversion and grid integration for sustainable transport industrial processes and next-generation energy systems.

Introduction

A sustainable society is an electrical society. Electrification of transportation heating in the built environment and especially industrial heat and processes is essential to achieving CO₂ reduction targets and combating climate change. Power conversion technologies play a critical role in enabling this transition particularly for heavy transport industrial heating power-to-X (including hydrogen) and direct electrification of chemical processes. This position offers the opportunity to lead research that addresses the technical challenges of large-scale electrification and grid integration.

Group

The position is embedded within the Electrical Energy Systems (EES) group within the Electrical Engineering department at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). The EES group is internationally recognized for its research in power electronics grid integration and energy systems. Our Power Conversion Program focuses on medium-voltage power electronics pulsed power transient plasma technologies and high-voltage aspects including power quality and electromagnetic compatibility. We collaborate closely with industry and research institutes to develop solutions for sustainable energy systems and industrial electrification.

Job Description

As an Assistant/Associate Professor you will:

  • Lead research on grid integration and stability for converter-dominated networks focusing on fleets of grid-forming inverters and their dynamic behavior.
  • Develop methods to interface intermittent renewable energy sources with continuous industrial demand including coupling with batteries thermal storage and hydrogen systems.
  • Investigate electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) challenges including harmonic resonance and mitigation strategies for interference caused by high-frequency switching.
  • Contribute to the development of grid codes for converter-based technologies and industrial applications.
  • Address infrastructure challenges by creating planning tools and strategies for grid reinforcement and connection requirements at distribution and transmission levels.
  • Collaborate with industry to ensure solutions meet reliability and power quality standards without disrupting critical industrial processes.
  • Secure research funding from national and international programs and build strong partnerships with industry.
  • Contribute to TU/es educational mission by teaching courses in power electronics and supervising BSc MSc and PhD students.

In this role you will contribute to the ambition of the Beethoven program to educate top talent and strengthen research across the fields of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate:

  • Holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Has a strong research track record in power electronics grid integration and industrial electrification.
  • Demonstrates expertise in one or more of the following:
    • Grid stability and power quality for converter-dominated systems.
    • Integration of renewables with industrial processes and energy storage.
    • Electromagnetic compatibility and harmonic resonance mitigation.
    • Development of grid codes and compliance strategies.
    • Infrastructure planning for large-scale electrification.
  • Shows leadership potential and ability to operate in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Has experience in securing research funding and collaborating with industry.
  • Shows affinity with teaching and willingness to obtain the University Teaching Qualification.
  • Possesses excellent communication and organizational skills.
