Job Summary

The intern role is an integral part of the Academic team ensuring all curriculum materials are reset for the upcoming school year.The intern will gain valuable experience in the field of education and contribute to the success of KIPP DCs mission. This is a summer intern role that runs for 9 weeks (June 1 2026 - July 31 2026) based on KIPP DC campuses with an anticipated start date of June 1st 2026.

About the team
The Equity and Inclusion team at KIPP DC leads the regions efforts to confront systemic inequities and embed antiracist practices across schools and offices. They partner with leaders design professional learning and spearhead initiatives like the Equity Fellowship Black Male Educator Convening and Pride Summit to ensure equity is at the center of policies practices and culture. Through this work they help create environments where every student staff member and family feels seen valued and supported to thrive.

About the Role
In this summer internship youll support the Equity and Inclusion team in preparing for key equity initiatives and professional development programs that will take place during the school year. Youll help create materials and manage logistical components for the E&I teams various workshops and trainings prepare network-wide communications and conduct research on relevant equity issues gaining hands-on experience in DEI-focused project work. This role provides a unique opportunity to learn about equity and inclusion in action while contributing to meaningful initiatives that support KIPP DC students staff and school leaders.This is a non-exempt position and will report to the Director of Equity & Inclusion.

Location and Type of Work
As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. This position will generally work independently and not regularly interface with students families or school teams. This position will primarily work from our headquarters office to maintain a connection to their colleagues and foster a sense of cross-functional collaboration. Because of the nature of this positions work this will allow for hybrid flexibility. This role will have approximately 50% flexibility to work remotely.

Responsibilities
Program & Event Preparation (50%)
  • Assist with planning organizing and preparing materials and logistics for upcoming professional development sessions and equity initiatives.
Resource Development (30%)
  • Create and compile handouts guides and other materials to support school-year programs.
Data & Tracking Support (10%)
  • Help track program participation engagement and other details to support the teams ongoing initiatives.
Administrative & Logistical Support (10%)
  • Assist with scheduling communications and other prep work to ensure smooth execution of school-year initiatives.

Requirements & Preferences

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (at least 1 year completed.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage short and long term projects to meet benchmarks
  • Works independent with input
  • Familiarity with google suite

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel across KIPP DC schools to help support summer professional development sessions.

Benefits & Compensation

The KIPP DC summer internship program offers a competitive hourly wage of $18.00 allowing you to gain valuable experience while earning a decent income. Interns are eligible to work up to 30 hours per week providing flexibility to balance your work and personal life.

Please note that the program will follow the KIPP DC HDQ holiday calendar which includes two unpaid holidays: Juneteenth (June 19) and the 4th of July observation (July 3) giving you time to celebrate and recharge.
