Were looking for a Counsel to join the Safety & Law Enforcement Legal team! The Safety & Law Enforcement Legal team provides critical support to Snaps Trust & Safety (T&S) Law Enforcement Operations (LEO) Product Spam & Abuse (S&A) Engineering Communications and Policy teams relating to investigation and enforcement of Community Guidelines and Terms of Service violations compliance with content moderation and reporting obligations regulatory engagement response to law enforcement requests and cross-functional platform-safety initiatives.
The team:
Supports Snaps T&S and S&A teams in connection with the detection investigation and enforcement of Community Guidelines and Terms of Service violations;
Partners across our Legal Policy Product and Safety Operations teams to support regulatory compliance inquiries and engagement and influence Snapchat product safety;
Collaborates with our Privacy Legal Product Legal Policy Engineering Communications and other internal partner teams to provide guidance and develop policies and tools that enable Snap to meet increasingly sophisticated and ever-shifting regulatory and legislative requirements as well as contribute to a range of cross-functional safety initiatives and prepare external messaging; and
Works with Snaps LEO team to help ensure Snap meets its obligations to produce user data to governments while adhering to relevant laws and protecting user privacy.
What youll do:
Working closely with the Communications team formalize and manage a process for developing and regularly updating a library of external messaging points as well as resources for the Communications Legal Policy and other teams on key points relating to various platform safety areas.
Collaborate with the Product Operations S&A and Policy teams on detecting and mitigating risks related to child safety as well as testing and refining product and operational defenses.
Advise the T&S Product S&A and Engineering teams on matters relating to compliance with obligations under platform safety transparency reporting and content regulations (e.g. the EU Digital Services Act the UK Online Safety Act and U.S. state and federal laws); required reporting to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC); and the enforcement of Snaps Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
Partner with the Policy team on legislative proposals and developments impacting user safety and outreach to government authorities.
Collaborate cross-functionally with teams across the company including Policy Product Engineering and others in Legal on safety- and compliance-related tooling and developments in safety laws and to support litigation defense.
Collaborate with the T&S team on investigations of Community Guidelines violations and advise regarding potential referrals to law enforcement.

Minimum Qualifications:
J.D. from an accredited university.
Active membership in at least one state bar.
6 years of proven experience advising clients conducting legal research and analyzing complex statutory requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a criminal prosecutor or in-house or at a law firm advising technology companies on trust and safety product safety and related matters. Experience conducting criminal investigations into child sexual exploitation and investigating Terms of Service/Community Guidelines violations would also be valuable.
Experience drafting or advising on public communications and responses to press inquiries.
Professional experience with digital platform safety and content regulations (such as NCMEC reporting requirements the E.U. Digital Services Act and the UK Online Safety Act). Experience with data protection and privacy laws is a plus.
Preferred locations are Washington D.C. and New York.

Compensation
In the United States work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidates starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills experience qualifications work location and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.
The base salary range for this position is $209000-$313000 annually.This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
