Job Summary: Reporting to the SVP/Chief Nursing Officer for administrative duties and to the Chair of Surgery and the Chief Hospitalist for clinical issues the Lead APP will be responsible to provide coordination and clinical oversight of the other APPs (PAs and NPs) to serve the needs of the department of surgery and surgical sub-specialties. The Lead APP is adjunct to the clinical services provided by the Hospitalist program. The Lead will work with the CNO CMO Chair of Surgery and Chief of Hospitalist to develop an APP Model of Practice. The Lead will be responsible for identifying staffing needs scheduling staff participating in the recruitment and training of staff and for providing input into staff evaluations. The Lead will attend meetings as required and communicate information to staff as appropriate.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. In collaboration with the physician completes pre-admission history and physical examination. Ensures that all requisite testing is completed
  2. Presents and discusses the findings of the initial evaluation with the Attending Surgeon to determine the treatment plan. Document the treatment plan and writes appropriate orders
  3. Coordinates elements of the treatment plan and assesses evaluates and documents patient progress. Reviews patient care management issues with the Attending Surgeon. Consults with appropriate resources as needed
  4. Reviews results of laboratory and other diagnostic tests and formulates an interpretation
  5. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to: wound care/debridement tube/drain insertion care and removal suturing/suture removal insertion or removal of traction pins splint brace or cast application or removal.
  6. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to: medication administration including IV push drugs and the injection of steroid or anesthetic agents insertion or removal of central venous lines insertion of nasogastric tubes bladder catheterization phlebotomy and IV insertion electrocardiograms.
  7. Serves as first or second assistant in the operating room
  8. Prepares and drapes patient; Closes skin incisions performs related procedures as directed by attending surgeon
  9. Provide postoperative care and management of patients in Inpatient Units
  10. Is responsible for making daily rounds on patients alone and/or with surgical team; report findings to attending surgeons.
Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelors degree in Nurse Practitioner required.
  2. License Nurse Practitioner License required. and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required. and Certificate 2 Advanced Cardiac Life Support required.
  3. 3-5 years related work experience required in Postgraduate experience as a surgical nurse practitioner and two years in a supervisory capacity.
  4. Must be approved by the Board of Directors BID-Needham.
  5. Demonstrated analytical abilities and strong interpretative skills for integrating information from the patient history physical exam and diagnostic data to be able to formulate a differential diagnosis and subsequent treatment plan for orthopedic patients in both elective and emergent situations.
  6. Experience with computer systems required including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint or Access.

  1. RNFA certified.

  7. Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.
  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients visitors staff and external customers in a professional service-oriented respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature of the Job:
Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently. Work is physically demanding and requires extended periods of standing and/or moving.

Pay Range:

$122850.00 USD - $200550.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors that may include seniority education training relevant experience relevant certifications geographyof work location job responsibilities or other applicable factors permissible by law.
