Job Summary

Summary

Maintains thePre-Op department schedule and charts for all pain eye and surgical patientsby communicating with patients nurses and physician offices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meets communication needs of patients and treatspatients and their family with respect and dignity.
  • Welcomes and greets all patients and visitorsin person or over the phone.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to teamleader co-workers and physicians.
  • Answers the phone while maintaining a politeconsistent phone manner using proper telephone etiquette.
  • Answers questions within scope of practice. Respondsto patients prospective patients and visitors inquiries in a courteousmanner.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate toprovide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patients needs maintains agood working relationship within the department as well as with otherdepartments by interacting professionally with co-workers and other healthcareproviders.
  • Facilitates patient flow by notifying theprovider of patients arrival being aware of delays and communicating withpatients and clinical staff.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of disease entities andmedical terminology.
  • Communicates ideas for improvement to the unitmanager/charge nurse.
  • Schedules and coordinates pre-op and radiologyappointments.
  • Protects patient confidentiality by making sureprotected health information is secured by not leaving PHI in plain sight.
  • Prepares patients chart prior to pre-op visit;completes surgical charts with required consents orders and diagnostictesting results prior to day of surgery.
  • Operates computer software and officeequipment.
  • Creates both electronic and paper forms ofhealth records.
  • Obtains health records or test results fromother HCP to complete chart.
  • Keeps pre-op office supplies adequately stockedby anticipating inventory needs placing orders and monitoring officeequipment.

Professional Requirements

  • Attends annual review department in-servicesstaff meetings and/or reviews all monthly staff meeting minutes.

Advanced Orthopedic and SpineCertification Requirements

(CR.1c) As part of the AdvancedOrthopedic and Spine Certification at a minimum the Program direct-carestaff must have one (1) hour of education specific to the Program scopeinitially and at least annually thereafter.

(CR.1e) As part of the AdvancedOrthopedic and Spine Certification staff possess adaptability to processes asrelated to up-to-date best practices collaboration between departmentscompliance with protocols/processes communication cooperation and exceptionalcustomer service.

Within 90 days of hire or ifcurrently employed within 90 days of signing the job description must adhereto:

  • Orientation of Advanced Orthopedic and SpineCertification
  • In compliance with the Program educationrequirements
  • Completed department specific competencies

Regulatory Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum of six (6) months to one (1) year ofrelated work experience

Language Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively in Englishboth verbally and in writing.
  • Basiccomputer knowledge.

Physical Demands

The physicaldemands described here are representative of those that must be met by anemployee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Whileperforming the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talkand hear. This position is very active and requires repetitive motions standingwalking bending kneeling and stooping all day. The employee must frequently liftor move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
