The mission of our team is to Understand structured media content deeply through vision and generate new professional-grade content of prime quality. To deliver on our mission our team is working towards advancing Gemini/GemPixs capabilities towards generating media directly in their natural structured representation format blending text images vectors etc. Our work has far reaching impactful use cases across Google PAs including Gemini App Ads Labs and Workspace.

The role

As a Research Engineer in our team you are responsible for all aspects of developing SOTA visual design capabilities advancing Gemini models to deliver intelligent experiences to users in their design creation workflows. You are expected to collaborate closely with Gemini and GemPix partners to accelerate the development of design intelligence capabilities to assist users towards effortlessly creating structured graphic-rich editable and interactive media content including slides posters ads invitations illustrations and other graphic designs. You will also mentor more junior members of the team on ML best practices generating technical roadmaps with other engineering leaders and executing against our most important priorities.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the modeling developments that advance the visual design intelligence of Gemini models.
  • Exemplify technical excellence in your design modeling / experimentation documentation and code and be a mentor for the junior engineers.
  • Demonstrate strong research skills in formulating research hypotheses and design experiment methodologies to test them.
  • Design and architect technical solutions addressing the needs and priorities of Gemini models while minimizing privacy and legal risks.
  • Help shape the technical roadmap through engagements with engineering and product leads of Gemini/Gempix teams. Drive alignment on deliverables timelines and execution to deliver impact.
  • Be forward looking and proactively suggest new topics for the team to invest on.

About you

You must meet these minimum qualifications to apply for this job

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering Computer Science a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in ML working with data quality metrics quality iterations.

In addition the following would be an advantage:

  • MSc/Phd in ML (or 2 years of experience with LLMs).
  • Experience in large-scale vision-language models (VLMs).
  • Experience in media generation with large models (LLMs or diffusion models).
  • Experience in RL modeling.
  • Experience in graphic design (or animations or rendering).
  • Experience in ML infrastructure.
