POSITION DUTIES

This position is the full performance level of work compiling and maintaining health records in a State facility or local health department. This position does not supervise other position receives general supervision from a Health Records Technician Supervisor or Health Records Program position is evaluated by using the classification job evaluation methodology. The use of this method involves comparing the assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work sections of the class specification.

The Health Records Technician Trainee Health Records Technician I and Health Records Technician II are differentiated on the basis of the degree of supervisory control exercised by the supervisor over these employees. The Health Records Technician Trainee learns to perform duties under close supervision. The Health Records Technician I performs duties under close supervision at times and under general supervision at other times depending on the complexity of the specific duty being performed. This position performs the full range of duties and responsibilities under general supervision. This position is differentiated from the Health Records Technician Supervisor in that the Health Records Technician Supervisor has supervisory responsibility for lower-level Health records Technicians.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience compiling and maintaining health records.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military serviceexperience as a non-commissioned officer in Medical Recordclassifications or Patient Administration Specialists and Health Services Management specialty codes in the health records management field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience in auditing creating and presenting reports
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word Access Excel and Electronic Health Records (EHR)
  • Experience compiling and maintaining medical records in a psychiatric setting

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates for this classification must demonstrate the ability to type at a minimum speed of 20 words per minute.
