Horizons at Episcopal Academy Lead Middle School Teacher
The Position
Horizons at The Episcopal Academy seeks a dedicated and enthusiastic Lead Middle School Teacher to inspire a lifelong love of learning in children. This summer position runs from June 22July 30 2026 and is ideal for a passionate collaborative educator who supports the Horizons mission and fosters a joyful inclusive and academically engaging learning environment. The Lead Teacher works closely with a teaching assistant Reading and Math Specialists and a Counselor and is supported by the Executive Director. Horizons encourages staff to return for multiple summers to help strengthen the program and community.
Key Responsibilities
Before the Summer Program:
- Attend orientation and professional development sessions.
- Design and teach high-quality culturally responsive project-based curriculum in language arts and math.
During the Summer Program:
- Lead engaging lessons community-building games and experiential learning opportunities.
- Support students during swim lessons field trips meals and recess.
- Identify individual learning profiles and coordinate resources to meet each students academic and social-emotional needs.
- Mentor assistant teachers and collaborate with volunteers or interns to support instruction and classroom management.
- Maintain a safe respectful challenging and fun learning environment.
- Attend weekly faculty meetings and contribute to program evaluation.
- Communicate regularly with caregivers and school-year teachers.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in education or a related field.
- Completion of all required state and federal clearances; CPR/AED certification required.
- Commitment to Horizons mission and educational equity.
- Knowledge of instructional best practices and practical teaching experience.
- Flexibility strong organization initiative and enthusiasm for teaching and learning.
- Ability to relate to children and families from diverse racial cultural religious and neurodiverse backgrounds.
- Expertise in classroom management social-emotional learning and fostering noncognitive skills such as focus perseverance empathy and self-discipline.
- Commitment to understanding systemic impacts on the families and communities served and ongoing personal growth and reflection.

Its core offering is a six-week summer enrichment program on Episcopal Academys campus complemented by a growing school-year program that includes tutoring community service and cultural programming.
