Job Summary

Position Profile


Oversees Court of Appeals security operations including day-to-day order protection emergency preparedness facility and courtroom security processes. Develops and implements court security policies and procedures. Provides COA staff security and emergency preparedness training.


Reporting directly to the Court Administrator/Clerk of Court this position works independently and exercises significant decision-making authority. Responsible for overseeing the daily security operations and may participate on court committees as assigned. Interacts regularly with Judges court staff attorneys co-workers and the public.

Salary: Range 67: $87075 - $114219 per year (DOQ) Includes 5% for King County Pay

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing daily court security operations to ensure the safety security and protection of court staff judicial officers and visitors.
  • Performs the duties of Bailiff during in-person hybrid and virtual court hearings. Duties include: opening and closing court session keeping the official hearing record managing courtroom equipment coordinating with IT support personnel TVW (Washingtons Public Affairs Network) news media personnel court staff attorneys and judicial officers as needed and maintaining order in the courtroom at all times.
  • Participation in committees assigned. Provides written and oral reports on court security matters to the Bench develops and implements security policies and procedures prepares and distributes memoranda related to safety and security measures for travel secures travel accommodations and prepares equipment and supplies for travel site needs.
  • Provides security and protection for court staff and judicial officers for off-site court events programs and conferences; conducts security-related investigations; evaluate off-site locations; and coordinate security parking and temporary courtroom set-up with site staff. Liaises with local state and federal law enforcement and emergency preparedness officials as needed.
  • Ensures that biographical historical and informational material about the Court are maintained for the public. Assists on projects as needed.
  • Assist the Administrative Assistant with facility related matters. Works with building engineer on all physical security coordination efforts.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications and Credentials



  • Bachelors degree in criminal justice public relations or public information ANDthree (3) years of experience working in a Court law enforcement or security environment.


OR


  • Associate of Arts degree ANDone year of experience in public relations public information or related field ANDfive (5) years of experience working in a court law enforcement or security environment.


Work experience may be substituted year-for-year for education provided it was in a public relations public information law enforcement security or related field.


SPECIAL NOTES:
  • Required to be authorized to carry a concealed weapon duringcourt.
  • Required to lift move and transport items weighing 40 pounds ormore.
  • Valid Washington State Drivers license isrequired.

  • Possesses knowledge of Washington Court systems appellate procedures law enforcement protocols and security operations.
  • Safely operates firearms and electronic recording systems; proficient in lifting/moving heavy objects and using standard office equipment.
