Job Description Sterile Supply Technician
Position Type: Contract
Duration: 13 Weeks
Location: Syracuse NY
Department: Central Sterile / Sterile Processing
Schedule & Shift Details
Shift: Evening
Hours: 8-hour shifts
Schedule: 5 days per week
Shift Time: 3:00 PM 11:30 PM
Weekends & Holidays: Rotating based on departmental needs
Travel Pay: $30/hr
Local Pay: $26/hr
Position Summary
The Sterile Supply Technician is responsible for the safe and effective decontamination disinfection assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments and trays used throughout the operating room and other clinical areas. This role ensures compliance with aseptic techniques infection control standards and departmental policies while supporting urgent and emergent clinical needs.
Key Responsibilities
Perform decontamination cleaning disinfection and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment
Assemble both complex and basic surgical instrument sets with accuracy and attention to detail
Operate and monitor sterilization equipment including steam sterilizers Steris and Sterrad systems
Conduct quality checks and document sterilization and decontamination processes
Maintain strict adherence to aseptic technique and infection control standards
Respond promptly to urgent and emergent requests from clinical staff
Ensure proper handling storage and distribution of sterile supplies
Maintain accurate records and logs related to sterilization processes
Support operating room and clinical department workflows as needed
Required Qualifications
Successful completion of a nationally accredited Central Service Technician certification exam
OR
Minimum 1 year of experience as a Central Service/Sterile Processing Technician in a healthcare facility
Ability to pass pre-employment health clearance
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures
Preferred Qualifications
Required Skills
Knowledge of sterilization methods and infection control practices
Experience operating sterilization and decontamination equipment
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment
Strong communication and teamwork skills
