Job Summary

The City of Lenexa is currently accepting applications for a full-time Body Mechanic to join our fleet maintenance team.

Come work in a brand new state-of-the-art and spacious 19300 sq. foot facility that provides greater efficiency to employees for completing their work by providing adequate space for toolboxes and mobile computer technology at their workspaces.

If youre seeking variety in your work you will not be disappointed as the fleet maintenance team maintains and repairs nearly 425 city vehicles (including police and fire vehicles) and more than 250 small engines (weed-eaters mowers and chainsaws). We will provide training to expand your knowledge and help prepare you for ASE certifications and CDL licensing if needed. We operate a body and paint shop for city vehicles and perform towing and recovery services welding and fabrication.

This position also receives the following:

  • Uniforms are provided
  • Boot and tool allowance
  • Personal protective equipment - City issued
  • Training to work towards ASE certifications and CDL Licensing if needed
  • Training on unfamiliar pieces of equipment and vehicles to increase knowledge base and work experience
  • Additional $2 per hour snow pay in the winter months

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Fleet Supervisor the Body Mechanic performs skilled bodywork painting and collision repair of the Citys fleet.

Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled work in painting bodywork and collision repair of cars trucks motorcycles and construction equipment.
  • Semi-skilled work in minor repairs and preventative maintenance to cars trucks motorcycles and diesel equipment which includes metal fabrication auto electronics mobile hydraulics suspension repair and wheel alignment.
  • Performs City-wide metal fabrication based on needs or drawings/blueprints provided by departments.
  • Works with insurance adjusters in estimating and repairing damage.
  • Responsible for compliance with all regulations involving volatile organic compounds (VOC) and other paint and body shop work environment issues.
  • Completes all work orders documenting the actual condition of the vehicle all repairs completed materials used and time spent.
  • Subject to call back for snow and other emergencies following department policy.

Qualifications

Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D. plus 4-5 years of body repair and general equipment maintenance OR associates degree in a related technical trade school program plus 2-3 years of body repair and limited equipment maintenance experience. Required to supply basic hand tools necessary to perform duties effectively.

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly rate of pay per is $29.67 to $34.40 dependent on qualifications and directly related experience. This position will have the opportunity to earn additional pay of $2.00 per hour on top of the base hourly rate of pay during the winter months. This is a full-time hourly non-exempt position.
