POSITION TITLE: Reconciliation Accountant

CLASSIFICATION: 7

DEPARTMENT: Financial Accounting and Reporting

RATE OF PAY: As per schedule A - Unifor 2458 FT Collective Agreement

HOURS OF WORK:Monday to Friday 8:30am 4:30pm

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
The Reconciliation Accountant is responsible for the timely reconciliation of the University bank accounts to the General Ledger and for supporting the Senior Accountant in this regard. The Reconciliation Accountant also assists the Controller and the Senior Accountant in various accounting functions analysis of general ledger accounts and preparation of working papers for the year-end audit.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
University bank accounts on a timely basis.
year-end working papers pertaining to back reconciliation and necessary schedules.
the Senior Accountant and Controller in their daily accounting responsibilities.
outstanding cheques investigate status of stale-dated cheques and make appropriate semi-annual adjustments.
and download necessary information from the banks online systems the Universitys general ledger and other subsidiary systems and completing the reconciliation in a complex data process.
and review journal entries prepared by departmental users as well as review and follow up issues with remote interfaces from other systems on campus.
specified audit procedures on a sample basis of cheques and other payments to ensure accuracy.
with various accounting functions as required.
duties or participation in special accounting projects as assigned.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful applicant will have:
Post-secondary degree or a college diploma in a related field (e.g. accounting business) with evidence of intermediate accounting training in said degree
Knowledge of accounting principles and basic understanding of banking procedures
Proven experience in a computerized accounting system
Experience with complex accounting reconciliations such as bank reconciliations with multiple accounts currencies and high-volume transactions
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Word and advanced skills in Excel and database tools as it relates to the bank reconciliation process and other accounting/analytical functions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in the Universitys financial processes
Intermediate accounting training or education such as an accounting designation or active progression towards an accounting designation

THE FOLLOWING TESTS WILL BE ADMINISTERED:
Accounting Test (Intermediate) (65% pass)
