  • QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Ability to obtain the National Federation of State High School Associations Level I Certification
    2. Ability to successful completethe NFHS course titled Bullying Hazing and Inappropriate Behaviors
    3. Prior coaching experience
    4. Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification
    5. Ability to obtain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
    6. Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate or Arizona Coaching Certificate - optional
    7. Knowledge skill and or experience in the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) strategies or be willing to receive training in those strategies as applicable.

    2. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
    3. Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
    4. Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and problem-solving skills

    6. Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff students parents and community members.
    7. Utilize with fidelity the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level.
    8. Ability to understand and maintain students and parents rights to confidentiality and not violate those rights; nor discuss students in inappropriate places or with anyone not in direct contact with such individual students.
    9. Ensure information obtained through the course of duties associated with this position is held in the highest of confidentiality.
    10. Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws district procedures and Board policies including mandatory reporting procedures.

    FUNCTION: To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship and an increased level of self-esteem.

    POSITION SUMMARY
    The high school head coach will work within the framework of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) to provide leadership in the ongoing development and improvement of student athletes in their sport through coordinating planning evaluation and implementation of programs. All coaches have the responsibility of carrying on their respective sport within the best interest of Sierra Vista Unified School District and its students within the bounds of the rules set forth by the AIA and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).The coach must demonstrate and apply leadership integrity responsibility self-control and knowledge of rules and regulations at all times. It is necessary and important that the coach act in a responsible and professional manner. The coach must set a good example and provide a healthy lifestyle.

    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Apply knowledge of sport to develop players at all levels of ability
    2. Coachindividual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
    3. Select train and manage additional coaches in program
    4. Workwith administrators purchasing staff and vendors to procure needed athletic equipment and supplies
    5. Maintaininventory of all sporting equipment and supplies
    6. Maintainnecessary attendance forms insurance records and similar paperwork.
    7. Overseethe safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
    8. Enforcediscipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and oversee penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
    9. Followall procurement and fundraising rules and procedures
    10. Encouragethe highest standards of conduct and scholastic achievement among all athletes.
    11. Comply with district and school procedures

    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
    The Varsity Coach reports to the Assistant Principal of Athletics/Activities. The Varsity Coach will interact cooperatively with all other staff positions. All elements of good human relations will be practiced.
