MAINTENANCE LEAD WORKER
$5035 - $6569 MONTHLY

THIS RECRUITMENT IS TO FILL ONE FULL-TIME VACANCY IN THEPUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENTAND TO ESTABLISH AN ELIGIBILITY LIST TO BE USED FOR FUTURE VACANCIES.

SUMMARY: Performs skilled and semi-skilled labor and work crews engaged in the maintenance repair and improvement of City streets parks and facilities for the Public Works Department; verifies that work is performed in accordance with all quality standards safety regulations and procedures; provides responsible staff assistance to management staff.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Working independently leads work crews in a variety of specialized maintenance and repair projects and semi-skilled labor tasks; prioritizes and assigns tasks; assures that all safety rules and regulations are observed on the job site; duties may vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
  • Cross-trains in a variety of Public Works work procedures and equipment operation; coordinates the cross-training of work crews in standard work methods and safety procedures.
  • Monitors and enforces adherence to City policies procedures and standards; coordinates work crews projects vehicles and equipment; reviews work crews activities to verify the work quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Leads the maintenance repair and improvement of municipal parks and public facilities; roadway surfaces and infrastructure; and City buildings and facilities.
  • Provides customer services and explains City programs and procedures to citizens.
  • Leads traffic control activities as needed; reports accidents and safety hazards; responds to emergencies and coordinates work activities as needed.
  • Assists with the management of work crews; evaluates performance work effectiveness methods and procedures; assures that job duties are completed incompliance with established safe work practices.
  • Operates a variety of trucks equipment and hand tools in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; instructs crew in the proper use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Inspects streets parks and facilities; identifies maintenance and repair issues and recommends and implements solutions; reports problems requiring additional maintenance and repair.
  • Completes work orders to meet City standards; prepares daily activity reports and material and equipment usage reports.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Rosemead and the constituent population by providing excellent customer service; promotes the City goals and priorities incompliance with all policies and procedures; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues client records and City information; performs related duties as required or assigned.
  • Assists with the management of work crews in monitoring workflow evaluating performance work effectiveness methods and procedures.
  • Ensures that job duties are completed in strict adherence to established safe work practices.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Rosemead and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education Training and Experience Guidelines:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND three years work experience operating specialized tools vehicles and maintenance equipment; OR an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

Knowledge of:

  • City policies andprocedures.
  • Regulations and standards governing the maintenance of streets public parks and municipal facilities.
  • Federal state and City safety rules and regulations occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Methods materials tools and equipment used in the maintenance of municipal infrastructure and facilities.
  • Traffic laws and rules for vehicle and equipment operation in hazardous work environments.
  • Proper use and storage of chemicals including OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets(MSDS) for hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
  • Operation repair and maintenance standards for specialized tools equipment and vehicles.
  • City geography traffic patterns streets landmarks and facility locations.
  • Principles of record keeping and records management.

Skill in:

  • Operating and maintaining power and hand tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Prioritizing tasks and assigning and coordinating work of assigned team members.
  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
  • Monitoring operations and assuring infrastructure and facilities are properly and safely maintained.
  • Reading and interpreting plans schematics and specifications.
  • Promoting and enforcing safe work practices including safe use of chemicals.
  • Identifying mechanical problems and making basic adjustments and repairs to tools and equipment.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other team members.
  • Providing effective customer service and dealing tactfully and courteously with the public.
  • Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

License and Certifications:

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Class C California Drivers License and maintain a satisfactory driving record during employment.
  • Traffic Control Flagger card and completion of City First Aid/CPR training program.
  • Depending on the needs of the City incumbent may be required to obtain specific technical training and certifications.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Work is performed indoors and outdoors at work sites throughout the City; required to perform skilled technical repair and maintenance work and lift and carry up to 50pounds. Must be able to work extended hours weekends and holidays as needed and respond to emergency callouts. May be required to travel to various sites locations and/or events. Team members are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours; team members are required to assume duties of a disaster worker in the event of a locally declared emergency.
