JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Fire Plans Review
- Work independently in reviewing construction documents shop drawings and specifications for compliance with adopted fire and building codes.
- Review and understand fire protection plans and related documents for compliance with California Fire Codes California Building Codes NFPA Standards and jurisdictional policies and requirements for commercial industrial and residential buildings.
- Assist clients designers and contractors by providing information and interpretations of codes and regulations and answering questions relating to plan review comments and inspection corrections.
- Responsible for preparing written correction letters and maintaining and updating records and databases.
- Identify plan deficiencies and prepare written correction notices.
- Enter plan review comments and approvals into electronic permitting and recordkeeping systems.
- Supervise subordinate staff as assigned.
- Projects include new commercial building remodel and residential projects.
Building & Fire Inspections
- Conduct field inspections of buildings under construction or renovation to verify compliance with approved plans and applicable codes.
- Perform periodic site visits to validate reviewed plans against actual construction progress.
- Organize inspection route Document inspection results and communicate findings to contractors design professionals and jurisdictional staff.
- Assist clients designers and contractors by providing information and interpretations of codes and regulations and answering questions relating to plan review comments and inspection corrections.
- Responsible for preparing written correction letters and maintaining and updating records and databases.
- Work with fire and building professionals and all project stakeholders to resolve code issues and coordinate activities with other municipal agencies as needed.
- Projects include new commercial building remodel and residential projects.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years of experience in new construction work for a Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau or other closely related field and any one of the following:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (PE license preferred)
- Fire Plans Examiner certification through ICC.
- Fire Inspector I certification through ICC.
- Fire Inspector II certification through ICC.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (ADD FOR INSPECTORS CE OFFICERS AND ANY POSITION DOING FIELD WORK)
Mobility & Movement:
- Frequent walking standing climbing bending stooping crawling or kneeling to conduct inspections.
- Ability to climb ladders scaffolding or unfinished stairways to access roofs attics crawl spaces and other elevated or confined areas.
- Occasional lifting carrying or moving objects up to2550 pounds(e.g. inspection tools plans or small equipment).
Vision & Hearing:
- Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans technical documents andobserveconstruction details.
- Ability to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection.
- Hearing sufficient to communicate with contractors workers and the public in noisy environments.
Manual Dexterity:
- Use ofhands and fingers to handle toolsoperateinspection equipment and use computers/tablets for reporting.
Work Environment:
- Work performed in both office and field settings.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat cold rain snow) and construction site environments (noise dust uneven terrain).
- Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations within a region.

Salary Range:$35/hr - $65/hr
