Summary:
The Cash Officer serves as a vital member of the Cashiers Team within Somerset Councils Exchequer Finance department. This role is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions including Accounts Payable (AP) Accounts Receivable (AR) and specialized cashiering functions. The post-holder acts as a local point of contact for financial queries ensuring that all activities comply with the Councils Financial Management Regulations and administrative policies.
Responsibilities:
- Executing financial transactions in accordance with agreed practices specifically focusing on cashiering processes AP/AR and Master Data transactions.
- Acting as a point of contact for staff suppliers and customers to provide guidance on cash handling processes financial regulations and administrative policies.
- Managing financial schemes such as Purchasing Cards Petty Cash and the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) for tax as well as maintaining controlled stationery.
- Proposing solutions for issues related to financial systems and procedures which may involve carrying out test transactions to verify process integrity.
- Upholding Council policies regarding equality diversity inclusion and health and safety in all interactions with staff and service users.
Qualification:
- Advanced ability to manage data using financial systems and spreadsheets.
- Knowledge of tax-related schemes like the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) is advantageous.
Essentials:
- Proven experience in processing high volumes of financial transactions specifically within a cashiering or exchequer environment.
- Familiarity with financial information systems; experience with Dynamics D365 or Income Management Systems (IMS) is highly beneficial.
- Experience providing financial support to internal contacts (budget holders schools HR) and external entities (suppliers auditors government departments).
- Ability to identify issues within financial workflows and suggest effective process controls or changes.
- A full UK driving license
