Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

TeHerenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Kairuruku - Research Fellow in Earth Science to join Te Kura Tātai Aro Whenua - School of Geography Environment and Earth Sciences on a 24-month fixed-term contract.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to produce quantitative lacustrine paleoseismic reconstructions using a combination of distributed acoustic sensing slope stability modelling and ground motion simulation.
  • Contributing to teaching of courses within the Earth Science Geography Master of Natural Hazards Science and Policy programmes as required to cover the temporary unavailability of a permanent staff member in the Earth Sciences programme.
  • Assist with the supervision of post-graduate research students within Ahorangi - Professor Jamie Howarths research group.

Key requirements:

  • A completed PhD in Earth Science or other relevant qualifications commensurate with the role.
  • 2-3 years minimum of research experience.
  • A developing record of quality research outputs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lacustrine paleoseismology and experience in lake sedimentology geophysical imaging and ground motion modelling.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated evidence of good oral and written communication skills.
